In some ways the military is an ultimate example of socialism.

the problems with the morons and idiots are not just weeding themselves out. They are taking a lot of innocent people with them.

In my 20 years of experience, it was more of a dictatorship.  You did what you were told or there were serious resulting actions, none good..... LOL

That is the sad part, the morons are affecting everyone.  Like  I mentioned somewhere before, I thunk, is I have family with the covid disease.  It's not a good place to be.

Groceries is easy, order them online for curbside pickup.

Yes, the average US citizen seems to have skipped history/civics in school and does not understand the difference between socialism and communism.

We have been doing all our shopping that way for close to a year now.  We order everything, either delivered or curb pick-up.  We live way out in the sticks, no one comes around and we invite no-one.  We are getting to be old grumpy hermits and love it, we are happy being with each-other and no one else.  Well, except for my hunting partner and we keep our distance.  We can talk 10 ft away and we both know how the other works so it's all good.

Seriously agree with your last sentence!!!!  I blame the schools and their lack of instruction/teaching all in the name of political correctness.  But that's another subject I can really get hyper about.  I hate idiots and snowflakes.

Amen, hence one of our main reasons for moving.

AZ thinking was summed up for me in a Lake Havasu City letter to the editor about using car turn indicators . . . the writer said he doesn't use turn signals because it's no one's business which way he's turning.

I have heard this statement before years ago but I have to say today it really hit my funnybone.

This whole post feels like it is me and my family.  Especially since I just got word that two  family members at risk have tested positive. Neither are blood relatives. One is my dead ex-wife's surviving husband that is in  a nursing facility and getting dialysis 3 times a week. Oh yeah, he has diabetes and has lost parts of both legs due to circulation issues not to mention  my ex dying about 18 months ago. (that may have been a stress relief though)  😁(just just joking linda-see emoji- I'm still holding out for you)

I held back a little on the military comparison so as not to anger my long dead drill instructor. LoL

Your mask MAY protect you provided that you discard it after each exposure.
It seems wasteful, but medical protocol follows that rule with PPE gear.

A cough or sneeze from a carrier with droplets on your mask will simply prove to the dim wits that masks don't work when infection follows.

Well, a friend and former coworker posted today that her grandmother died from COVID. She had just turned 103. Wow! The sad part was that she died alone due to COVID restrictions. I am so sad for her and the situation in general. I have no solution in mind I just know that we can not live in this lock down status. I am not convinced that the "science" or reality backs it up entirely.

Chalkie, I'm so sorry that another person has died.  The science is solid - the simple things work.  The refusal to do those things has brought this horror down upon us.   The reason we are in this situation is because people would not do the simple things like wearing a mask, avoiding indoor areas, avoiding crowds, washing hands, practicing physical distancing and when hospitals are overwhelmed the choice is locking down or letting people die in the streets outside of emergency rooms.   Even ambulance services are beyond the breaking point.  And all so unnecessary.   I will never understand the mentality that says catching and passing on a potentially dangerous disease is ok.

My lack of faith is when we dictate that people, especially in nursing homes, can not see loved ones. We can shop, we can dine (in some places), we can attend church, etc. but we can not attend to a loved one in a nursing home. At this point it is a family decision, not a government decision. I will say no more on the topic as I don't want to be placed in "jail".

Definitly the ideal and I wish it could be.

Gary that is one of the many parts of this that is so unfair. I believe the science but  I find myself doubtful at times, especially when it seems so unfair.  I have sort of steeled myself realizing I could be one of those going alone if I get it but at least at the present I think I would rather just go with God and not take any loved ones with me.  Some others I might be willing to take with me as cold as that sounds.

I don’t disagree with you.  And actually most transmission was done by staff who worked at more than one facility and the lack of decent PPE for them.    But the other things you listed are why it is dangerous for families to go visit, because they can pick up virus at church (wedding in Washing state with 300 guests resulted in deaths at several nursing homes), in store shopping, indoor dining, and then spread it to those least able to withstand the virus.

If the infected person is wearing a mask and you are wearing one, risk is down to about 1.5%.   Where are you going where others aren’t wearing a mask when inside?
As long as inside off disposable mask is dry and you haven’t been in close contact with others wearing mask, disposables can be carefully removed, placed in ziplock bag and reused.   The head of the Arizona Dept. of Health has done a PSA that runs on the local channels covering the above and showing how to take off mask, drop in the bag, use hand sanitizer, etc.   And cloth ones just wash.  BTW, most transmission is BEFORE symptoms appear.

We wear cloth masks and store the used ones in the washing machine until the next cycle is run.

No doubt that this is a very difficult situation, but you put yourself in the position of the staff of the full care nursing facilities and consider the problems that they have. All of their residents live in very close contact with each other and many do not even understand the covid transmission problems and would not be cooperative for that reason, The staff lives in fear of what will happen if the virus is brought into their facility. Every resident in most of those facilities is high risk, many extremely high risk. Consider what has happened in the facilities that have experienced outbreaks of covid. Would you want your loved one in a facility that allowed free access to all family members? The risk is not only to the residents of the homes but to their staff as well. I know the manager of the nursing center in our community and I think that she has aged 10 years in the 9 months since the outbreak began in Dallas. There just isn't an easy answer to these problems.

Hang in there Gary, they can't make it too tough for an old guy.  In my case old, fat, and bald. Make me a triple threat.  If you get too aggravated sic Gracie on one of the nay sayers.  It will make you feel better at least in the moment.      How about a picture of Gracie on here.

ps you and Jan can stand in the background if you don't block Gracie.😀

I have seen a couple of things like that. I think one was clear plastic wall with flexible plastic arm holes. I think it was dreamed up by a grandma if I remember correctly some time back, Not great but better than nothing.

Ever see the original ‘Andromeda Strain’?  Not really a new idea, but requires 💵💵 that most facilities haven’t got or would be willing to spend.

Maybe they would if the people missing contact with their loved ones pushed hard enough. I sincerely doubt this setup would be that expensive.

Sometimes I actively try not to think about negative stuff.  Unfortunately something I have thought of and read constantly is all the people asserting their rights is the fact that none of them seem to remember that rights come with responsibility.  And I know this is political but these days it goes all the up and down but especially at the top.  I have never been much of a leader but the little bit I did and do I tried to never ask someone to do anything I would not do. Even as  volunteer I still clean and occaisional toilet or something else I don't really like to do.

I sure ain't  a Will Rogers , Mark Twain, or Willy Shakspere but I still notice stuff after enough coffee.

I finally found a pic as a Medic during my first four years in my whites at Barksdale AFB hospital back loading dock. I was there 1971-1974. That picture was taken in late 1973 - early 1974. I was a Buck Sergeant in 1973. Lots of pics from the weapon ranges from later. My Basic Training class was one of the last to be issued 1505 khaki shirts and trousers, as well as dark blue wool long sleeve shirts. Both obsolete by the end of my first year.
