Location?? Free campgrounds???

Welcome to the Escapees forum!!!

Take a look at Free Campsites, Boondockers Welcome, and Harvest Host websites. As mentioned there may be some BLM areas where one can camp for free or very low cost. There are 18 National Forests in California which might have opportunities for free vehicle camping. The Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests appear to be the closest to Riverside. The regulations for each forest are different. The maps available from the linked website show areas open to vehicle camping and explain the rules.

Again, Welcome to the Escapees Forum!!!

Help me find location for campgrounds in riverside California park???

Here are campgrounds in and near Riverside, California.

Ooops..... I was going by the above question from you; not the title as I see you want boondocking.  Well, if you can't find suitable boondocking then this link will give you campgrounds - most likely, with a fee.

Hope you find something!

  • 3 weeks later...

nothing in riverside at all showing anywhere,  I grew up there, back then it was different...  I do notice WInco  in Hemet allows overnights, or I see em do; ask the winco in Riverside if it is okay to stay overnight like  2 or three times a week now and then and then use crowed motels and such.  not sure if of your rig, but if you have disabled plates, they cant make you move or cite you for not doing so.... if WHiteWater Preserve ever opens, you can stay there 3 days a month for free, need to make reservations though.

Even with handicapped plates you may be allowed to park but not sleep in your vehicle. Are there any Casinos in the area. If so they often allow overnight parking and sometimes you can stay several nights. Check out freecampgrounds.net, compendium.com, and campground reviews.com.

Oh, I forgot, it’s not close to the city of Riverside, but it is in Riverside County, Escapees has a Co-Op near Temachula. I believe they have a boondocking area. I would call them.

Temachula

Temecula.  Jojoba Hills is near Temecula in Aguanga.  Just east a bit.  Nice park.

Most cities in Southern California have ordinances that prohibit parking RVs on streets, let alone staying in them.  Its tough the more West you go.

It is a nice and friendly park. But it is not free camping.

While it's true that Jojoba Hills is not free camping their boondocking area is $7.50 a night which is substantially cheaper than their other sites while getting you access to all their amenities. https://jojobahills.com/cms/about/rates/

True, but I think there is a limit that you can stay there. I think it is 2 weeks a year. Another option would be to become a Elk or Moose. Camping there is about as cheap as it gets in CA. And I think the Moose have a woman’s Moose that is only $10 a year to join.

This has nothing to do with the OP's request but I checked into both of those. As a female I would not be comfortable joining the Moose as they are stuck in the 1950s era of females being less than although they plan to vote this year about changing that. The local Elks lodge, though, currently has females as their officials. I only found one in Minnesota that has RV parking, though, so if that's your goal this is not the best location.

You are correct that she did not ask about Elk or Moose Lodges. But since a “Free” camping spot was not an option. I suggested a low cost option that might work for her. As I have found camping in California to be very $$$ per night. The Elks lodges have given me a lot of savings over commercial campgrounds. I have stayed in about 15 Elks Lodges just in California over the past year. Some lodges do not allow RV parking all the way up to FHU 50 amps. Each lodge is different, so you need to plan accordingly. My wife stayed at one while I was across the country for 3 weeks. She felt safe and welcomed. I’m sorry that you have had bad experiences with the Elks. They always seem VERY friendly and welcoming.
But the poster of this thread is looking for “free bondocking” around “Riverside California Park”.
Even with all of the posts, nothing has been found that meets her criteria, not to mention that she has not even chimed back in saying anything.

You are correct, I have always stayed there with hook-ups. It used to be 2 weeks a year, but it looks like in 2020 they changed there rules to 28 days with hook-ups.They even offer a weekly rate now. I was there in December 2019 and it was just $$ per day with no weekly breaks.
