SWharton
Simply put, is there a smart plug that will notify me when an appliance strops drawing power. Our washing machine is in a shed and, due to water pressure, takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours to do a load. Yes, we are lazy............. Ray,IN
This about as close to what you outlined I found: https://www.amazon.com/Sense-Energy-Monitor-Electricity-Usage/dp/B075K6PHJ9?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 Quote 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. SWharton
That is a bit pricey. I was hoping for just a Smart Plug to do this. I did find a Zooz product, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07578W7KY/?coliid=I12KQJTSNOAD20&colid=3HPG7M9WER91&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it but it needs a hub. I'll keep looking for a smart plug. mptjelgin
What about a cheap baby monitor so you can hear the "BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ" when it shuts off?? SWharton
Never thought of that, are baby monitor microphones(for pickup) any good? They weren't around when we had our kids.
SWharton
This has potential. Most Baby Monitors have video and the $$ show it. But then I read about taking an old cell phone and adding an app as a baby monitor. Most of them are video also, need to research. I will also stop by Goodwill to see what they have. SWharton
OK. I dug out an old phone, charging now. I'll report back. If this works, we could also use it as an intercom(if we remember to turn it on). I knew the Escapees would have a solution.
Scrap
I use a SmartDry, but it is only for the dryer and not the washer. Works though. Been thinking about putting a Shelly 1 on the washer but there isn't really a timer terminal or wire that switches when it shuts off on its own. I might put it on the blue motor-hi wire and it'll send a notification on spin cycle. That'll probably be close enough.
SWharton
Thanks. I have everything set up to try the Android Baby Monitor app tomorrow. At least the dryer is consistent.
Ray,IN
That old smart phone may also be used as a dash-cam. To transmit, wouldn't that require a cellular plan or be capable of WiFi connection? SWharton
We bought the G1W dash cam several years ago. Works great and continually record when the car starts. $40 when we bought it.
SWharton
Sorry about the delay in getting back Grandkids had strep throat so we were babysitting. Using a Baby Monitor app worked fine. the Wifi drops in an out a bit but it is OK for this application. We did find the microphone was super sensitive and had to turn of an electric heater we had running in the shed to hear the washer. Thanks Mark and Teri
