Ray,IN
While perusing the Iowa 80 truck stop website I spied this product for getting out of muddy situations. TruckClaws. IMO they would be much more convenient to put of/remove than tire chains, and the company claims they work better alone or in conjuction with tire chains. Of course they cannot be used on pavement, it would ruin tires, suspension, and possibly drivetrain, then there is the legality of use on paved roads. They are not cheap, however @ $300/pr,(only 1 pr required per drive axle - video) are still much less than a tow bill out of a muddy field. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. Barbaraok
Better idea is not to travel in a motorhome through areas with snow on the pavement. But that is just us! I agree completely, I was focusing on rallies in a grassy field, then the rain begins, mud follows. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. sandsys
It does say for commercial vehicles only. Also for use on dual wheels only and those wheels are BIG! Not sure you could use them on a motorhome but the HDT guys with the big 5th wheels might be able to do so. In the meantime, I sent the link to our truck driving daughter who lives in Montana. Ray,IN
Dave, I missed this video, the very first part shows a semi using them on an ice-covered street to get unstuck. From the video, use on pavement is very hard on tires IMO. Yes Linda, large DP MH's have huge wheels 22.5" rims, a few even have 24.5". The above video shows them used on aluminum rims, and despite the commercial truck admonition the following video shows them used on a pickup and a4x4 on a muddy trail. 2000 Winnebago Ultimate Freedom USQ40JD, ISC 8.3 Cummins 350, Spartan MM Chassis. sandsys
Our daughter said she was vaguely aware of them. If she drove a logging truck maybe. She never takes her commercial truck anywhere she'd need them. If chains are required this would not be allowed as a substitute. But, off road they have possibilities. noteven
Lying in the slop putting on tire chains is half the fun. "Are we there yet?" asked no motorcycle rider, ever.
