Onan 5000 Generator

We are now getting into AC season and wanted to make sure the generator would switch over automatically if we lose power when we are away. We have a couple of cats. The test worked, gen switched fine but what surprised us was that once the power was put back on the gen turned off by itself. We had read(maybe a bad interpretation on our part) that we had to turn the gen off manually. Nice surprise!

Onan, came with it.

Nice upgrade! The two Onan equipped motorhomes that we had didn't have that auto-start feature. Does it unload the 120V system before it transfers? I would assume that it takes a brief time of no 120V to make the shift?

We don't know at this point. I was coming into the MH to turn off the generator when the generator turned off by itself. We are in a CG and were doing a test so I don't want to play with it again to keep peace with the neighbors.

Next time we will pay a bit more attention to what is going on.
