alan0043
Hi Everyone, I am looking to buy a dash cam. I am thinking about the Garmin 55 model. For the folks that have that model, would you buy it again ? Right now the price seems to be $200. I have not done any research on finding a better price yet. What do you guys think ? Or is there a better brand and model out there ? I want to stay under $200. Looking forward to any input, Al 2012 Volvo VNL 630 w/ I-Shift; D13 engine; " Veeger " Redwood, model 3401R ; 5th Wheel Trailer, " Dead Wood " 2006 Smart Car " Killer Frog "
SWharton
We looked at Garmin(not sure which model) and ended up buying the Black Box G1W. $50. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JK0YSUI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 We have used it for 3 years and no problems. Move it from MH to car when parked for a period. Besides the price benefit I can set it so it doesn't record sound. People ask why? If I see and idiot on the road and say something like "look at that idiot" and then I get hit by that idiot someone will say it is my fault. If I don't have sound no one knows what I say. oldbutspry
We've got two of the BlackSys CH-100B cameras. It has front and rear cams that are very clear. It does audio recording but that can be turned off. You can get a gps module that shows speed if you want. And parking mode records movement. Everything can be accessed, configured and viewed on your phone via wifi. We're very happy with them.

SWharton
With the Black Box in the MH we need to use the suction cup but in the car we bought a component so we could hang it from the rear view mirror.
Big5er
Alan, check the resolutions on both. I know the Garmin has a lot more features and I'm thinking it has a better optics, both are capable of 1080p at 30fps but like any other camera, the lens makes a big difference. Go to Garmin and download the manual. You know the old saying...you get what you pay for.
