Giraffe G4

runaway parents

I know there is one used by the heavy haul industry for pre-running routes with a pilot car that measures and stores dimensions in real time at road speed.  The data can then be loaded into the prime mover's system so the driver can "see" his clearances ahead.  $16,000 I think the guy said.

Danged if I can remember what called...

To save $200 I’d just know the highest component on my truck and trailer.  Believe it was Norm that had a measuring stick at the rally that swept along the top and gave a measurement.  My highest point is 13’3”.  Another way is to eyeball the highest point (fairing, ac cover) level a straight edge (1 x 2)across and drop a tape or string from the bottom edge and see that height to ground.  After knowing that height just don’t go anywhere that looks shorter.  Saying that in Charleston, SC I still had to go under some tree branches that cost me $200 to repaint the gouge in my fairing but with no way out but forward the Giraffe wouldn’t have helped either.

Let's see ... somewhere in my notes and doodles and files ... oh yes -  "trailer with axleless air suspension that can kneel, ride at 10 ft overall height on good roads, and raise itself for off road access to prime boon dockery spots, stupid approaches etc. Tanks and systems and storage over the pin, people walk around in the drop section behind..."

I know, like one with decent insulation and controlled ventilation - it would never sell....

The last time I got an Escapees Smart Weigh done, a height measurement was included. My Super-C is 12'5".

I know the height of my vehicle. But without stopping and getting out and measuring a low roof line or tunnel that is not marked thought this piece of equipment would be handy. Might prevent a few scrapes and scratches. Don't believe it cost 16000 dollars .More like a couple hundred.

Ya the $16000 ones measure points in space while the vehicle travels at highway speed, plots the routes based on the load dimensions, then the next day shows the load driver clearances on the fly...

Kind of “overkill” as they say :) for a rv that doesn’t change dimensions
