AT&T Announces Plan to Bring 5G to Dallas, Waco, and Atlanta

Click on the link about Verizon doing home cell based broadband, at possibly faster speeds than cable and DSL, before putting it out on the as yet to come new cell phones,

Excerpt:

"To kick things off, AT&T has announced its first 5G cities will be Dallas and Waco, Texas, as well as Atlanta, Georgia.

5G networks will be faster than the 4G speeds you’re used to. Much faster. Of course, you’ll need a new phone to take advantage of the faster network, but there aren’t currently any 5G phones available just yet. AT&T expects that manufacturers will come out with some 5G-compatible phones later this year and on into 2019. By that point, the company will have announced even more cities that will receive 5G networks.

So, what kind of speeds can you expect on a 5G network? It’s hard to say until we see some real-world applications. The theoretical maximum for 4G is 100 megabits per second, but you probably see less than that in practice. However, the theoretical maximum for 5G is 10 gigabits per second, so even a small fraction of that speed could potentially be faster than your home internet. In fact, Verizon is planning to start its 5G rollout by aiming at home internet users rather than cell phones, specifically for this reason."

An so the $$$ just keep on leaving our wallets. So now ya just got to wonder how much. Although the contract cell phone plans are just about gone except for the ppl that pay (per contract) (just when you thought they were gone) for their phones on the month to month term. So $600-800 4G phones can always be used wonder what the 5G phones going to cost. An for those that don't like being in the slow lane putting that blinker on to move over to fast lane going to cost ya big time.

Something else to think about Companies like T-mobil who offer $$ to switch over to them They going to offer more $$$ to move over  or a new 5G phone instead

Wild,

Some folks can't afford an RV! Or is that won't? Sorry but cars and technology are obsolete the day you buy them. To get the best bang for your bucks you need to go in early so that you got your money out of it. Some wait using slower inferior stuff and then finally decide they have waited long enough. If you check out the hardware warranties and support time lines you'll see the most folks get are 3 year support for their security and feature updates. I used to be the early adopter and then waited two years before I went to Windows 7 as I saw no advantage over XP3. IT was better and I missed out on that ease for two years I could have enjoyed it. I bought new computers to go to 7 to insure there were no hardware issues. I went to Windows 8 early on release with the early adopter discounts with new hardware of $14.99 per Windows 8 Pro license. They were all converted much later to Windows 10 free as I also went to 8.1 when it came out., and 10 as soon as it was available free. From 7 to now I have been through 7 Windows tablets from December 2012 on, 8 desktops and All in ones in six years. I spend much less annually than my friends who hunt or are tournament bass fishermen. IT is my hobby. I expect to keep my desktop and tablet systems for about three to five years from now on. Sometimes I get a deal offered I can't resist to play and sell almost immediately and get my money back. My phones will be every two to three years as I am not as concerned with their newness or to impress others with our choices. But I must admit to pulling out my Projector and JBL speaker mods when friends ask about out Moto Zs that were freebies for moving back to Verizon. The projector is much better than I had hoped for and works amazingly well: https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-mods/moto-insta-share-projector

The JBL Soundboost: https://www.verizonwireless.com/accessories/jbl-soundboost-moto-mod-black/?cmp=KNC-C-HQ-NON-R-AC-NONE-NONE-2K0PX0-PX-BIN-71700000031037346&cvosrc=ppc.bing.jbl sound boost&cvo_campaign=339111521&cvo_crid=77378171326331&Matchtype=p&gclid=CKD09ZrzwdkCFZ2OxQIdTyQBRw&gclsrc=ds

The Soundboost is good but not as loud or HiFi as our three Bose Soundlinks. Two minis and one Soundlink III. We each have one mini, and share the III. So we aren't buying the new JBL Soundboost2: https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-mods/jbl-soundboost-2-speaker

We already had two Qi dual coil fast chargers so we bought one each of the charging backs too: https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-mods/moto-style-shell-with-wireless-charging

Those because the Moto Z Plays we have have batteries that last a couple of days where our old mid range phones had to be charged daily or more. But the phones did not have wireless charging so we got the backs which are really impressive. The Mod can be charged alone on our Wireless charger, or charge both the phone's internal battery and itself on the wireless stands.

But the only thin cases don't allow the mods to be used without removing the phone. However we will use the bumper case and the battery mod when our batteries start to hold charge for less and less time.

These phones are only a year old so we won't be going to 5G anytime soon on our phones. But we use out home broadband and desktops for all our Internet email reading and work/playing.  When Satellite broadband from LEO systems become available and prove themselves for a couple of years I'll need to buy a couple of Sat-phones for that service, 5G or otherwise.

No one makes you upgrade any of your hardware. You can use yours as long as you want. But as an enthusiast, I certainly do not want the tech companies to stop making things better, faster, stronger, so the folks that don't want the new stuff if they have to pay for it. It's up to you. I'm just having fun. It is in my job description - "Re-Tired."

If we want to play, we gotta pay.;)
