IamLadyPirate
This is Valerie. I am Jim Gehlen's widow. I got a letter in the mail saying that National Interstate Insurance is no longer covering private trucks, and will no longer cover my HDT. Has anyone else heard about this? I called my insurance agent and she found me another company (Progressive) at an outrageous price. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me? I use my truck twice a year. I am seriously considering selling my truck.
GlennWest
Call Miller. We have National General with them. Very reasonable. Progressive before, expensive. 2003 Teton Grand Freedom towed with 2006 Freightliner Century 120 across the beautiful USA welding pipe.https://photos.app.goo.gl/O32ZjgzSzgK7LAyt1

trailertraveler
I have had National Interstate for the trailer since 2007. A few days ago, I called my agent about adding the truck. The agent said that National Interstate is not writing any new policies and that they had been notified by National Interstate that recreational vehicle policies would not be renewed. I had read on another forum that a member had been notified that National Interstate would not be renewing the policy on their motorhome.
VegasFlyer
Our truck is registered as a Private Truck and we also obtained coverage through C&C with National General. It was significantly less than quotes through other agents for Progressive. We have heard that Chris Yust is retiring and transferring all her business over to another agent, though that should not effect your obtaining coverage. Good luck! IamLadyPirate
Thank you for all of your responses. I will call my insurance agent Monday and ask her to check out National General. Do they only insure full-timers? I am not concidered a full-timer because I now have a house in South Dakota. I know that was an issue on my policy before. nawaa
We have National Interstate, and the issue we went round and round with was the Gross Vehicle Weight - it HAD to be under 25K lb. That's not the GVWR, but what is listed on the door as the weight of the truck. If it's been singled, or weighed, perhaps that would be acceptable. We have a Class 7, but they've insured this truck all along, even with the previous owner, and I haven't seen or heard ANYTHING to indicate that they're going to drop us. People were saying the same thing last year, and they didn't hassle us, just renewed as expected. I hope you get things settled - maybe it's time for a new insurance agent? I went with Explorer Insurance Agency, phone is 888-774-6778. Good luck! Oh, and this truck has never been commercial, not sure if that's a possible issue either. 2007 Freightliner M2-112, 68' connected 2021 New Horizons Majestic 45' toyhauler 2001 Kawasaki Concours 2007 Yamaha V-Star Classic
donf888
Hey Valerie, We got our HDT & NH 5'er covered thru FCIS -- Farm & City (in Iowa), when Trese was still there... she knew how to get'er done with "agreed value" coverage on both! This happened (in 2013?) when Nat. Interstate discontinued 3-axle HDT coverage. I priced out Blue Sky as well, they were competitive; issues with Miller and others had to do with our LLC ownership in MT. Good luck, glad to learn you're okay & using your rig! Vegas Teacher
I just renewed with National General yesterday, $700 and some change. This is for the trailer and the 780. I was towed last spring, many of you remember my story, they paid for the towing also and my premium did not go up this time.
