I’m not sure why Phil referred to an earlier post, but I can understand why you got a beef with him.

But what I don’t understand is your continued beef with Steve. Each post I’ve read of yours regarding Steve is filled with passive aggressive attacks against him even AFTER he apologized to you. The original poster thanked the Dixon’s for their hard work on this years rally and then you changed the topic. Couldn’t you have just thanked them as the original post intended? OR say nothing at all? I just don’t get it.

So 13speed, I’m curious, is it even possible for you to accept Steve’s initial apology and move forward?

I think I'm gonna bump you out of the way!!!

!3 Speed, if you don't like the members, rallys, organization or rules here, just do us a favor and

LEAVE....

Take Gihunter with you.....

This crowd has from bottom line mechanics, police, doctors, IT specialists, lawyers, nuclear physicists, pilots, retired and active military, truck drivers, teachers, engineers of every type, and even a yacht/boat builder.  If you felt ostracized, maybe you weren't wearing a name tag or walking around saying hello as you passed by....

I sure as hell didn't see you and I was walking around as much as anybody.... I may have been talking on my phone but if you grabbed my attention, I would have talked to you........

Boy, not a very friendly group you guys have issues with your HDT insecurity's. (and ego's) Phil is definitely a bully cop. This HDT forum reminds me of grade school when you had to know the secret code (own a HDT) to get into the boys club.

By the way 13speed, I invited you to come by our rig and visit with us, and if you did, you didn't tell me who you were.  Your profile pic of the dog doesn't show us who you are either (uhhh, kinda like my cat pic does??).  Kinda hard to be friendly with a ghost!

All I did was ask to see some pictures from anyone that had them not just Steve. I am sorry if my asking came about in a manner that was more edgy than I anticipated. I never intended to vent my frustrations with Steve until Phil went to town on me. I was fine with Steve's apology until again I pass by him at this years rally and he is the exact same way as he was before. I don't want excuses that he was busy or tired or what ever. When someone walks by me and intentionally looks the other way instead of at the minimum smiling say like someone I see on the elevator I don't think highly of them. He is a professional educated Airline Pilot who must smile and say hello to hundreds of people per day but yet walks around a rally that he is in charge of with a scowl on his face and looks away from people that he passes with total disregard. (And no Phil, that is not someone that makes me want to say hello let alone ask to see his trailer.) Last year he was nice to me until he got my money and then looked away every other time he saw me. Never a "hows it going" or "are you enjoying the rally" or can I introduce you to anyone. Nothing! This is the guy organizing the event and he treated a new person with total disregard after taking their money. Well there you go...But I guess it must be only me he does this to because everyone else thinks he is a saint.

I just saw this. Before Phil distorted what I said in my posts, I said that I just ran out of time. I was only there to talk with Henry because he is installing my hitch tomorrow. Our dogs were in daycare here in Manhattan and we had to get back in time to pick them up before they closed. By the time we got done talking with Henry, Cole, Santa Dave and yourself we had to leave. My intensions were to see your rig as well as Phil"s but it just was not in the cards. No slight intended on my part. I am not a bad guy as some on here are trying to portray me as. I am just a socially awkward middle aged screw ball that wants to have fun and meet nice non judgey people.

As an "outsider" (aka, someone who hasn't been to these events and has only met two people from here in person), this is my perspective...

Someone started a "thank you" thread.  Someone else asked for photos.  A pile-on happened, and not in a nice way.

I've organized and run more events than I can count.  I've led organizations, and played support roles.  I've also participated in events run by others.  All across the country.  What I've observed is that a group usually starts with one mentality and attitude, attracting like minded individuals.  But sooner or later, a small group of very vocal people join the group, and they are the ones that dictate the long term direction and attitude of the group.  The original people, and the ones who are like minded, remain quiet.  The newer vocal ones attract like minded individuals, growing the number of people in the group who act and talk like them.  And the others just sort of fade away.  sometimes it's not good or bad, just different.  But, usually, the new direction is not receptive to people who live or think differently from themselves, or don't fit into the social structure they want to have, and it's usually an environment that is a little more "contemporary" in behavior.

From what I can see, this has already been happening in the HDT community, and it is the reason why I don't attend events.  Which, I am fully aware, is of no concern to the ones who are the reason I won't attend.  But, it's a shame that I won't get to meet the ones who don't post on here but are the ones I would really get along with.  Because they are clearly still around, but the more vocal ones are tipping the enjoyment level of events past my personal point of it being worth the drive and effort.

I've been following what people on here now call the "HDT community" since 2001.  I've learned a lot, and attempted to contribute when I believe that I have something to offer.  I've been on the receiving end of the same attitudes on display in this thread.  It's just the way these cycles tend to go, and it's why previously vibrant groups tend to shrink and fade.  But the people who would have otherwise participated in the group are still out there, they just find other groups and people to invest their time into.

Just my personal observations.  The ones who are the vocal ones could care less what I think and will probably berate me for my perspective.  The ones who are the current targets of the vocal ones will probably commiserate.  And everyone else will either fall into either the "suck it up" or the "yep, that's why we do less and less with the group" camps.

It takes a lot of time, effort and personal resources to put together any event, especially one as large and comprehensive as the national rally.  That deserves appreciation.  Using that topic and earnest intent to express gratitude as an excuse to vent personal dislike for individuals is pretty low.  But, defending yourself when attacked is pretty normal.

Shifted,

nicely stated.  You can come visit here any time.

It seems to me, that those who make the most noise about how things should be changed, are those who have been here but a short time. They jump in with both feet and start blazing away, as if the dozens of long timers don't count.

While I welcome new blood, I don't welcome attitudes or whining.

It is difficult on a forum to convey meaning and intention with the written word. Plus, sometimes your fingers "say" something you might not in person....that is a general problem, but most noticeable on Facebook.

People at the HDT Rally are generally welcoming and open to new people. There may be perceptions of "ignoring" someone, but that is most likely due to something else on the "ignoring" person's mind at the time. I've been know to walk around in oblivion from time to time, myself. But it is not because I have ill will for someone, it is more because I'm focussed on something else at that instant. I try to say hi to everyone, every time, but honestly, it is not possible all the time at a Rally this large.

So cutting some slack from time-to-time is probably a good position to take. Personal attacks are not a good approach, though, no matter what. It is best to rise above them when possible. That goes from all sides of an encounter.

I missed seeing Chris during the short time he was here, but I would have said Hi.....assuming I wasn't walking around in oblivion. :)

Oh, and those of you who like really nice coaches - Chris's coach is going to be/is spectacular - so be nice and he might allow you to see it and/or post some pictures.  ;)

Children.....Childern sit down and be still, it's time for a story.........

Its early morning and memory loss mom n law had a busy Graveyard shift so I was busy hiding the knives and chainsaws......

Words are best left off the page to describe what mom does says and thinks some of the times......

However you know mom has teaches me a thing or two almost every day.

Her right knee pains her greatly but her memory loss hinders many pain killer drugs and a few drugs seem to help with the pain but tend to send her into rages..so "we" reach a point where the pain is the lessor of the choices.....

Much of the time she is likely the happiest person I know she is not concerned about the scumbags who have stolen much of her life savings or who is President or who has the nicest trailer.....she is very happy to mostly sit in her rocker and humm old songs....

Last year we were driving back from a visit to the doctor office and we were stopped at a train crossing and mom was looking at a flashing sign at a seedy bar advertising Buffalo Wings.... Slowly she started spelling  B U F F A L O.  W I N G S........ Then she truned to me to me and said ......."and they think I am Crazy?"

You know folks seems like almost everyone gets a case of...... "Memory-Loss" at times and then .......things can get a bit "Crazy"........

Drive on.......( Have some B U F F......W I N G S......and Dr Pepper)

Shifted: thank you for sharing. I understand what you're saying. But remember: people have had the great pleasure of befriending Steve. I think if you knew him, you would have a different perspective.

I am sure you would defend your friend if placed in the same situation. Perhaps you can reply without putting your emotions into it, but I bet you would support your friend's integrity if you felt it was needed. I regret that my first post in this type of conversation wasn't my best, but it saddened me to seem the same behavior continue about my friend, especially when unwarranted.

In fact, I started a new thread to thank Steve and everyone else who had a hand in a great rally! For those who attended and had a good time, please visit this thread:

I really appreciate your honesty, 13speed. If this is in fact what happened to you, that is unfortunate. I know you believe it intentional, I believe it to be unintentional, and well, that's the end of that...

The good news is there are over 150 people that attended the rally, not just Steve. Let's say you never get a hello from him, well, there are 149 other people who will say hello... err... um... 148 people who will say hello to you. (I'm taking Phil into account here...heehee.) Anyway, good luck with your truck and trailer and enjoy life as best as you can!

So Chris - are you saying you did come by and visit with Richard and I?  I'm confused.  I'm good with faces, but lousy with names, so if I don't remember you, it's because I can't "see you" again to try to remember the conversation.

And for what it's worth Chris, I am also basically very shy, as well as being socially awkward as well - but I engage most of the time at the rally.  It's exhausting to have to make myself do so, but the rewards are great as are the friendships that have come about thru the years of "getting out there" and being social.  By nature, I'm pretty much a hermit, but trust me when I say that this group is worth putting some effort into - salt of the earth people!

Had a great time, learned a lot, shared stories, rekindled past friendships and made a few new friends at this years rally.  THANKS to all who work so hard to put this on.

The written word can be so misunderstood. Please be assured I was NOT implying you said anything about Steve. I know YOU didn't say anything abut Steve.

This was my first rally. I found the group inviting and willing to share. Rocky greeted us when we pulled in and helped us get parked. Everyone else was friendly and ready to chat. We didn’t socialize a lot but that was our choice. Anytime we attempted to socialize we were included like old friends. I didn’t meet anyone I didn’t enjoy. I didn’t find any tender egos or prima donnas. I found a lot of folks willing to share knowledge and interested in the RV and HDT craft. A great bunch of folks. I only wish we had more time. Oh and, Since I don’t speak Canadian I was glad that Greg was fluent in English.
