SWharton
Can I hook up my router I brought from home to my Mobley? I am finding 5 connections a limitation. Anything special about doing this?
Biker56
Nothing special. I have mine to a WiFiRanger router from it to a switch that feeds DTV Genie, Smart TV, Blue Ray player, Laptop and Desktop via hard wired. And wireless to 2 iPads & a iPhone pus a Amazon Echo & Dot And the Mobley thinks it is only hooked to 1. Bill Joyce
Most "home" routers only support getting your internet through Ethernet (wired), via a cable or DSL modem. To hook up the Mobley your router will need to support USB tethering, along with support for the Mobley, or "Wifi as WAN", where it can take an incoming wifi signal and rebroadcast it with a new SSID/passcode (wifi name/password). Travel routers like a Hootoo Tripmate (around $40 from Amazon) or a more full featured router like Pepwave and WifiRanger makes, can do the job. I use a Pepwave Surf SOHO. 2004 40' Newmar Dutch Star DP towing an AWD 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid, Fulltimer July 2003 to October 2018, Parttimer now. k4rs
There is a thread on Howard Forums covering this topic: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php/1894920-ZTE-Mobley-USB-Tethering-ASUS-Router-and-probably-others!/page1 I purchased an GL-MT-300N for $20 from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-MT300N-Pre-installed-Performance-Compatible/dp/B01AL7P1FU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1506692446&sr=8-9&keywords=travel+router It plugs into the USB port on the side of the Mobley. It provides better signal and overcomes the 5 device limit using the stock firmware. I tried some other firmware listed in the thread, but found them less stable and went back to the factory version. SWharton
Thanks everybody. I'll check my router later and if I don't have a USB I'll go buy one.
SWharton
OK. I looked at thee routers everyone has mentioned and decided I really don't understand most of this. Howard forum was way beyond my interest and knowledge. Looking at all of this it seems the simplest is GL-MT-300N that K4Rz has used. This is what I want is to be able to connect all my devices, whether using them or not, to the router. I have a total of 8 devices(I think). Most are not active on a regular basis(like the printer and Tivo Roamio). Unless someone can tell me that the GL-MT-300N will not work I will order one. Comments? and thanks. usnlt
I see a discussion on Howard Forums that indicates ATT has pulled the unlimited data plan. Thinking appears to be that those that have the plan are OK for now. Reading a couple of different threads, it seems like the Mobley might not be available for purchase. A couple of days ago, it was available on the ATT website. The discussion also said folks that have removed the SIM and put it in other devices was what prompted this action. FYI I my case I know nothing about most things.
