Stand alone Battery Charger

Personally..in order to get a proper charge on deep cycle RV batteries I would buy an RV converter with a charge wizard and use it. The charge wizard will make sure that you get a full charge. An automotive type charger is not designed for that.

Thanks for the reply

I have a RV converter with a charge wizard but when I hook to shore power the amps charging the batteries go to 55amps for a time and its seems like it trips because the amps then goes into the negative....the after a short time everything goes to 50 plus amps again and then the cycle starts again...what could the problem be

What inverter/charger is in your unit? Have you called the manufacturer to review settings?

Also keep in mind, that you could have a BIRD type system in this unit, that will also keep your chassis battery healthy.

If you feel the unit that came OEM is not up the task, then many have been served all with Battery Tender type units. Either one sophisticated to maintain the chassis at the same time. Or, some have added dedicated units to chassis and also house batteries. These can be either solar, and or 120 V power supplies.

Best of luck to you, hope it is just tuning of existing equipment for you,

Smitty

Look for a self resetting circuit breaker that is tripping. Sounds like a possibility from what you describe and I had the same issue.
