It's that time again. The Mid America Truck Show will be in Louisville again this year, March 23rd thru the 25th (Thursday thru Saturday). Great place to buy tie-downs, chains, CHROME, GeeWhizmos,

Make camping reservations early, whether on-site or not. There aren't many campgrounds in the local area.

Two of the 4 Ohio River bridges are brand new. So are the $10 tolls for 5 axle rigs. Both ways. There is, however, a couple of ways around it. I-64 / I-264/265 will take you around it, if a bit out of the way, and the 2nd St bridge will take you past the I-65 toll bridge, but is isn't very big rig friendly. It can be done, but sorting your way through downtown narrow streets is no fun.

Don't go on Saturday unless you just like abuse

I'll be there again. If anyone wants VIP passes, let me know as soon as possible (free now--I'd have to look at when the rates start going up). The main perk is that they let you get into the show early on opening day. Even after I lose the ability to do them free, I think they're $10 or so--well worth it if you want to talk to a particular vendor or make your rounds quickly.

I'm trying to decide which booth I want today. I was in the west wing last year, and can either go there or for a spot in the pavilion. Any of you guys have any thoughts?

As far as camping, I've stayed at the KOA on the north side of town--easy to get into, but sites are a little short for most in this crowd. It was pretty lightly occupied last year, at least leading up to the show. Boondocking on-site was the only way I was still standing at the end of the weekend.

If it doesn't detract from someone from out of town, Paula & I would take 2 of the VIP's off your hands.

BTW - Do you need storage space, or whatever? I can probably help with that kind of stuff. Could go so far as to park the Showhauler here, water, 30 amp, gray water all good, black water not so much but the house is only steps away.

Thanks for the offer! I might take you up on that. I think all I need to get you passes is an e-mail address.

Paul & David,

If we just drove up for the day, is parking available on site? No camper.

Parking on-site isn't an issue. Depending on when you arrive, a lot of the daily parking is fairly close.

No problem getting the passes--though it looks like I'll need addresses, and they'll mail them directly to you. The deadline for that is February 23rd, so if you're thinking about it, let me know. Given that the line at the registration desk can be a little long at peak times, being able to have passes in hand is probably preferable anyways. I'll have a few plebeian passes also, should someone decide to go after the free registration cutoff.

I've just confirmed that I'll have booth #76176, which is in the pavilion right near the registration desk and west entrance. Perhaps more importantly (for me), and better than last year, it's located halfway between food and restroom.

Would it be a problem if I go ahead and get one for Susan, even though she might not come along? I'm thinking if there will be other women, she's likely to change her mind.

No problem at all.

Just a quick reminder--today's the last day I can get VIP passes for free. If you want 'em, just let me know.

I'll have a stack of regular passes in the booth too, so you can still get in for free if you get in touch after today (and I can still get VIP passes too, just have to pay a handling fee). Whatever you do, don't pay just to get in the door!

Just printed mine a few minutes ago. Thanks David.

I have one for my darling as well, though she says she won't go unless other women are sure to be there. So, how many women might there be on Thursday? Of course, I'm only counting women in our group. lest I draw a smart alec retort from the peanut gallery.....

What is best to see in limited amount of time?

Depends on what you're after. Obviously, there's stuff related to driver recruitment, trailers, etc. that's probably not interesting. There will be manufacturer displays and bigger vendors in the south wing, but you'll probably spend more time in the west wing if there's stuff you're planning to buy. My suggestion would be to loop through the whole thing briskly, marking the booths you want to actually stop and visit on the map.

Susan and I won't make it to the show after all.  Family responsibilities have taken precedence. We'll miss y'all.

We can't make it either.  We made it to Indiana and was staying right across the river from Louisville.  I caught a vicious GI bug Tuesday night that didn't improve much by Wednesday so we packed up and headed home.  Better today but not 100%.  It would have been our first MATS and we were really excited about it.  Thanks David for the tickets.  Paul said it was the Indiana water that caused my ills, retribution for all the new toll bridges crossing the Ohio.
