Jimws
. Glacier Pines RV Park 120 Swan Mountain Drive Kalispell, MT 59901 406-752-2760 This is a private park approximately 20 miles outside of Glacier which my wife and I volunteered at last summer. Hosts are needed from 05/06/17 thru 09/30/17. They ask for 15 to 20 hours per week each in return for a FHU site. One will staff the office/store taking reservations, selling supplies and providing customer information. The other will perform minor maintenance including mowing, cleaning the campground, opening/cleaning/closing the pool, escorting campers to their site, etc. This area has much to offer. Of course Glacier National Park(Going to the Sun Rd, Two Medicine, Polebridge, wildlife galore), National Buffalo Range, Ghost Towns, fishing, cherry orchards, huckleberries and considerably more depending upon your interests. We had the time of our life in this area, however we will be on the east coast this summer volunteering at a national park. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the northwest, this is your chance. We have no personal interest in this campground but simply want to alert others who may be interested in this outstanding opportunity as another couple did for us. Kirk W
Not really what I'd call a volunteer position, but more of a barter one, since this is a "for profit" business but it is still a great area. Might make a good summer location for someone. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Twotoes
Sounds great. One word of caution. Make sure that you will not be 1099 for the value of the site. As Kirk said this is more of a barter since this is a for profit private park. 2015 Itasca Ellipse 42QD 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock Edition 2021 Harley Street Glide Special Fulltimer
oldcodger
What does this park value a volunteer site at? $500 per month, $600 per month? What does this park value a volunteer's wage per hour to be and is it comparable to a paid position doing similar work at another park? I ask this because 120 to 160 hours per month seems a bit much for just a fhu site. Dave If the park uses average pricing, then a month site costs will range between $900 to $1500 a month ($30 to $50/day). The note said 15-20 hours per week so high side call it 80 hours for 4 weeks. $11.25/hour. Of course, when volunteering its not the hourly wage but the location and love of doing it. Personally, we would pass only because it seems to involve cleaning bathrooms and the pool, something neither of us are interested in. Beautiful area. Actually the note said 15 to 20 hours per week EACH which is 30-40 hours per week or 120-160 every 4 weeks just as old codger said. Also monthly rates are much lower than daily rate x 30. Kirk W
The public park camphost positions usually ask for similar hours but rarely involve any cleaning and often are mostly just a presence in the park to keep an eye on things and answer questions. Most federal public parks do ask for at least that many hours and usually more but we chose places where we enjoyed the work that we were doing and might well have volunteered for had we been living closeby. I guess it is more a question of attitute and personal preferences, since few if any positions listed as volunteer, whether in the public or private sectors come anywhere close to a reasonable wage if paid for all hours worked.
