oldbutspry
Well, no worry about us dropping our guard. We do the best we can to be vigilant in regular houses (we rent so that limits how much we can do). We went and looked at the Fort Bliss RV campground today and it looked fine. Wife is ready to buy an RV now and start living in it. I told her better to wait than start now and be tired of it before we start traveling. It's still a few years before retirement. And besides, I don't want out cars sitting outside all that time. The El Paso sun will kill them in no time. When we do eventually dive in, I'm thinking when we go on vacation it would be best to store everything in the storage lot of a military base. Anyone here use those for parking RVs? We used the one on Fort Stewart to store a motorcycle trailer and it seemed ok.
RV_Fan44
As others have stated it pretty much ch is situational awareness and instinct. I would agree.

DuneElliot
17 years fulltiming. I NEVER, EVER lock the compartments on my 5er. I operate under the theory that they can steal anything in there and it will be cheaper and less trouble than fixing the door, wall and full-body paint that they ruin getting into the compartment. We have never had anything stolen. A couple of my compartments don't close without locking them. I did change out my compartment locks predominantly because one of them actually leads to the under-TV storage area which has an access door to the main living area and I wanted something more secure. With one lock changed I changed the others as I only wanted to have to use one key for storage. I don't have a big, new or fancy-looking camper so nothing about it says I have much to steal. I may re-think the location of some of my storage and move things around. The only issues I have seen in our local area with RVs and theft is when people have left them on the mountain for hunting season. They have been broken into and firearms have been stolen. But again, like others have mentioned regarding other predominant thefts etc, these were left alone for longer periods of time.
