NoDirectionHome
I'm trying to ascertain the weight of a complete 40K tandem assembly. So that would be wheel end to wheel end including (drum) brakes, inter-axle driveshaft and suspension arms. Yes, I know there are a thousand variables but +/- 200-300 lbs won't kill me. rdickinson
Herrin told me I dropped a ton when losing a set of duals.
NoDirectionHome
Yeah, that's not the kind of guess I'm looking for and I'm thinking he's off by at least 500#'s if he's counting the wheels and tires as well.
GeorgiaHybrid
Stekay, According to my build sheet, dropping from 40K tandem rears to a 23K single rear, our truck dropped 1889 pounds. The single Neway suspension dropped another 436 pounds. The ecopia tires were heavier but the aluminum wheels were lighter so that was a wash so each tire/wheel combo you loose should be roughly 150 pound for aluminum wheels to 200 pounds with steel wheels. Assuming that you are losing 4 aluminum wheels, a good rough guess would be roughly 2,900 to 3,000 pounds
NoDirectionHome
Thanks GeorgiaHybrid, So you're basically saying that the entire power divider drive set-up less the wheels and tires, only weigh 1300 pounds? If that's true, well I'm surprised.
GeorgiaHybrid
The power divider and suspension system weighed 1890 pounds. The tires and wheel are not counted in the weight total on the build sheet at that point (best as I can figure). The single suspension would save another 400+ pounds for a total of 2,300 pounds plus tires and wheels. add another 600 pounds for 4 tires and wheels and you should be around 2,900 pounds more or less. There are other items that will change as well but that should get you close. Scrap should also be able to tell us if the build sheet is just the axles only or if the tires and wheel are included seeing's how he was the one that spec'ed it out.
