rdickinson
Someone smashed a hole in the drivers side headlite lens. Both were replaced a year ago last Summer. Also have the HID lite upgrade. All bulbs are working or the one bulb is. I suppose the obvious answer is order another from EBay. The issue is where to ship it to. Hopefully I'll be on the road next Saturday if the weather is OK. It could be chasing me across the country. A Volvo dealer may not want to install it if it was fwd shipped to him, add to that they may have difficulty re installing the lites like they did last time. Made a royal mess of it. Probably need the sticky pad for the ballast. What can I put over the hole to tide me over until I get to Florida. Thanks
Nuke-E
Roger--Be careful ordering on eBay. There are a lot of very low-quality unbranded knock-offs listed, some showing pictures and/or part numbers from the real Volvo lights. If you're going to be in the US, Advantage Truck Parts in Charlotte, NC carries the Depo housings and has about as good of a price as anybody. Many Volvo dealers also carry the Depo or Dorman replacements as well, though I've had a number of people pay genuine Volvo prices in some cases. Bottom line, scrutinize what you're ordering carefully. How big of a hole are we talking about? In front of the projector or somewhere else? If it's a fairly small hole, even clear packing tape would be better than nothing. The main concern would be stuff on the projector and/or bulb--the ballast can handle being out in the elements just fine. Send me an address (PM or e-mail) where you'll be and I'll get you a set of Velcro pads for re-mounting the ballast, though the sticky pad will likely be able to be restuck if the light was clean first time around. 45' 2004 Showhauler -- VNL300, ISX, FreedomLine -- RVnerds.com -- where I've started to write about what I'm up to Headlight and Fog Light Upgrades http://deepspacelighting.com
rdickinson
Advantage may have been where I got the pair last time...I'll try in the morning but unlikely they will be open. The cold weather coming this next week may complicate or stall departure. The plan is to be in the Melbourne area early Feb. for Big Band concert at the King Theatre, if getting there pans out I'd use the same guy Randy put me onto last year to replace the hitch. Volvo dealers probably wouldn't want to do it as they didn't sell it and their prices may be a lot higher. Let me know hot to fix this temporarily....Eternabond tape?? What would it take to do this kind of damage? There were no plastic pcs at the location. Must have happened when seats were being upholstered elsewhere. Nuke-E
My guess would be something like a ball/ball mount, though it's a little on the high side. It would take a pretty concentrated hit to punch a hole like that in polycarbonate--I don't think that the corner of a car/truck would do that. Normally Advantage is open on Saturdays, but I'm not sure with the holiday. As far as repair, you can get lens repair tape at anight auto parts store, and it's probably cheaper than eternabond. 45' 2004 Showhauler -- VNL300, ISX, FreedomLine -- RVnerds.com -- where I've started to write about what I'm up to Headlight and Fog Light Upgrades http://deepspacelighting.com

rdickinson
Ryan at Advantage will ship lens, cost about $220. He used to live close by in Langley BC. Just need to find the color, either silver or black. They also recommend packing tape to cover the hole. I'll check at Lordco today & see what they have as a temp fix. Just got off phone to Sicilia Truck in the Melbourne area, they swapped out a hitch for me last Feb. It is OK to have lens housing shipped to their location and they will swap it out When or if I eventually get there. BTW, I did a bunch of mods to the Flattop, upholstery, cameras, lane departure plus other electronics.
