rickndeb1125 Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Having trouble getting a insurance company to give us insurance on our volvo. We have told our agent its licensed as a motorhome, pulling a 5th wheel. I know its just not us - any suggestions on what insurance company to use. Rick L Olson
txdslshop Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 I used Progressive through USAA for ours. They made me bring my 5th wheel over to them and gave me a decent price with replacement cost on the 5th. Jeremy
NeverEasy Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Try National General (Good Sams). They have been great. VegasFlyer Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 We shopped nearly everyone and went with Blue Sky. Very easy process and great price. Our truck is tandem also. On another note, do you have any photos you can post of your bed, we are in the process of building a bed very similar to yours. bockofma Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Good evening, Rick n' Deb. We've had excellent service, including claims, from Blue Sky's Jim Schecter, jim.schecter@risholdings.com, 844.747.9320, ext. 532. Regards, Michael 2007 Volvo VNL 670 2007 NuWa HitchHiker Champagne
I'mdonewiththis forum Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I also have State Farm. Although I don't have an HDT yet I did go so far as show my agent pictures of what I want to do and she sad she would double check with the underwriters. I got a call saying "Yes, we will insure it as long as the title says 'motorhome' and there is no restriction as to the number of axles".
Av8r3400 Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I'm still looking for an HDT, but one of the first things I did was talk to my Insurance Agent. I'm with Auto Owners and they will insure one, registered as a motorhome in my state of Wisconsin. Chad Heiser Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 I also recommend Blue Sky. I have had excellent service with them, including a minor claim we made this summer. They are easy to deal with and their premiums are very reasonable. They do require the 5er and truck to be insured together. I have USAA for everything else I own, but they (including their handoff to progressive) would not insure my HDT. I live in CA, so not sure if that makes a difference over what txdslshop was able to do with USAA. My insurance on my HDT and 5er with Blue Sky is cheaper than it was on my dually and the same 5er with USAA. My Blue Sky policy is also agreed value vs depreciated value with USAA. I have a buddy who is an insurance agent and I had him go over the policy with a fine tooth comb and he was very impressed with the coverage. He also told me the parent company of Blue Sky is a highly rated company in the insurance industry (their name escapes me now, but my buddy was impressed). 2009 Volvo 670 with dinette/workstation sleeper - Walter 2017 DRV Mobile Suite 40KSSB4 with factory mods, dealer mods and personal mods - now in the RV graveyard 2022 DRV Full House MX450 with customized floor plan 2018 Polaris RZR Turbo S (fits in the garage) 2016 Smart Car (fits in the garage or gets flat towed behind the DRV when the RZR is in the garage) My First Solar Install Thread My Second Solar Install Thread & Photos and Documents Related to the build My MX450's solar, battery and inverter system - my biggest system yet! chadheiser.com West Coast HDT Rally Website

Darryl&Rita Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 Insurance questions need more information to answer properly. 1. Where are you registered? Not all insurance companies mentioned above are licensed to sell in all areas. 2. How are you registered? Motorhome is different than private truck. 3. How is your truck configured? A tandem is different than singled, a truck is different than a tractor. Answers above would be more valuable if the above were answered. It would help those who follow to make early planning decisions, and offer some guidance. I have been wrong before, I'll probably be wrong again. 2000 Kenworth T 2000 w/N-14 and 10 speed Gen1 Autoshift, deck built by Star Fabrication 2006 smart fourtwo cdi cabriolet 2007 32.5' Fleetwood QuantumPlease e-mail us here.
Sinbad5024 Posted November 20, 2016 Report Posted November 20, 2016 We are registered in Co as a motorhome and a tandem. We were with Shelter but they would only insure it as a commercial truck. A friend of mine is a broker and he found Safeco to insure our truck and both trailers. Less than half the price and better coverage.
