Stan Wright Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 Armed with information obtained from the Resource Guide and the forum it only took 24 minutes at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to convert and license my Volvo as an RV-Motorhome. Awesome!
MrSeas Posted November 12, 2016 Report Posted November 12, 2016 What state? Can you please list the steps you used? What forms / docs were required for your state? Do the steps in the resource guide need to be updated? Thanks
Stan Wright Posted November 12, 2016 Author Report Posted November 12, 2016 Indiana. I used Indiana forms 39350 (Physical inspection of a vehicle) because it was purchased out of state and form 39771 (Report of vehicle body change) to change it from a semi to RV-Motorhome. These forms were filled out by a police officer. I also printed out section 571-3 of the Federal Registry that shows the federal definition of motorhome to have as documentation in case the officer needed to reference it. He didn't. I took the above forms along with the title, bill of sale, and proof of insurance to the BMV. They charged $15 for the title change, $86 for the registration, and sales tax on the purchase price. The steps in the Resource Guide for Indiana were accurate. The guy at the BMV said Indiana has three versions that an RV can be titled as...RV-Motorhome, RV-Camper, or RV-trailer. The inspecting police officer was enamored with the idea of using an HDT as a hauler. He explored the truck and took pictures for his wife to see.
