Winter RV Plans........... ?

We have returned to home-base and with our travel plans for the next few months not being with the RV, I find myself getting it ready for winter storage, as well as starting to do some upgrades in preparation for next season. It looks as though our RVing is over until time to head to Tucson for next Escapade, but as one who really misses the fulltime lifestyle, I find myself wondering what others of you are planning for the next 4 months that we will be home bound? Since we seem to be obligated to stay an keep the east TX medical community economically healthy, would you please share with others like us, so we can live vicariously through your reports?

If we stay in Montana much longer I will report in on shoveling snow. Yes fulltimers do that also. It is white outside at the moment.

 

The DW has a doctors appointment on the 18th so we need to stay till then. Doing yoga sometimes gets you to visit a surgeon.

 

We have been practicing using a step ladder for her to get in our truck so we can travel. A trip to Florida may develop before we can go to Arizona for the winter.

 

I do have a few days of work yet to finish. And some things to do on our vehicles before we can leave.

We're all gonna be there , sooner or later Kirk .

 

Currently , we're prepping for the road after 5 months of volunteering at a nature park in North central Illinois . Airing tires and checking fluids , storing some of the park things for the Winter ... The usual getting ready to switch gears .

Of course , we have the little things like discovering the Jeep needing a rear brake job three days before we'd planned to leave . Good thing we don't have 'dead lines' .

 

We'll be heading South toward Southeastern Texas with no particular time schedule and no set in stone route . We tend to use the US or state highways as that is more our speed . We'll be exploring .

We are staying in Phoenix for a few more days then heading to Lake Havasu for the first time. Plan to be there about the same amount of time you are in Texas Kirk. Then heading up the coast through California. Need to be in Rapid City S.D by mid June for wife's yearly doctors appointments. Best to you and yours

We'll stay home until after we receive our ballots in the mail for the November 8 election. We're currently planning on leaving here on the 26th and heading toward Arizona, with a week or more spent boondocking in the Lake Mead NRA. Once we get into Arizona, we'll purchase an LTVA season pass and spend most of the winter traveling between several LTVA's. We'll also spend some time in the Tucson area.

We have just started fulltiming, so this is a new adventure for us. We have reservations for the month of October in Florida and taking a week out to fly to Grand Cayman. Then we will be heading to Texas for the month of November but don't have any definite plans other than for Thanksgiving where we will meet up with family.

 

We eventually plan to be at Quartzsite by January 20th for a rally so will probably head towards Arizona in December, but really have no plans. Really hoping that finding places to stay won't be hard. We hope to just find areas we'd like to explore and stay for awhile.

We are active with a local RV club chapter in our "down time" between travels. The rig rarely sits got longer than 6 weeks w/o being used at least for a weekend. It is connected to power when stored so I turn on the heat or use heat lamps in freezing weather.

Already back down on our RV lot in Yuma, re-working some things to the way we want it. We will get real busy with friends coming into Yuma after 11-1. And to Vern, do you also work on snow blowers?

We will be leaving NW Arkansas for Tucson on October 30. We will head back here in late March for 2 more stints of 7 months every year at a COE park. I look forward to the end of the contract, while it's easy work 7 months is a long time. I am grateful we will be able to go to Tucson every winter.

I'm headed to Mission, TX at he end of the month. Will be there for a bit, then head over to the AZ/CA LTVA areas for the rest of the winter. I'll catch a couple of fiberglass trailer rallies at Quartzsite & Townsend, TN.

We are sorting and packing getting ready to move to a new retirement community where almost everything we need is under one roof so we can ignore Minnesota winter as much as possible.

Heading out 10/30 from Maine, with ultimate destination the Tucson area. First winter snowbirding, so will just absorb info/advice/experiences and see how it all shapes me. Just want good health, warmth, and some new acquaintances along the way.

Getting back to full time in T-2 weeks, after 2.5 years living in the tech bubble known as the Bay Area. DW is holding down the fort with a good remote job, while I start my product development consulting biz. We'll be heading into NV for an off road rally, then Vegas for the 1/2 marathon/Re-Invent (AWS conference), and then off to the east coast for the holidays! Then hopefully chasing the snow (we like to ski/snowboard). We've wintered in an RV before in Tahoe, but lets see how well we do while on the road!

Pulling out of Gunnison CO 10/16 stop in the springs for a few days.Then make another stop in Wichita KS for a few days,then head to Carthage MO for our winter gig starting Nov. 1st.

First two weeks of September in the Pacific Northwest are great. Warm days, cool nights and dark earlier enough to have a campfire.

But after September 15th it gets too dark and depressing. Rain starts, it's cold and leaves are plastered everywhere. It never dries out.

 

So after the ballots arrive in the mail we will head out for our lot in Cave Creek, Arizona.

As usual, we're not sure of our route. Or when we'll get there. DW hasn't done the eastern California HWY 395 yet and I'd like to see The Volcanic Tablelands out of Bishop.

 

First two weeks of September we toured The Palouse area of Eastern Washington border of Idaho. Camped on a mountain top (Iron Mt. campsite) with only two campsites and a vault toilet in Mary McCroskey State Park. Then stayed at Heyburn State Park where we started the 72-mile paved Trail of the Couer d'Alenines. The trail will require multiple visits to it before we complete it in sections. The trail is for bikes, roller blades, walkers - no motorized vehicles.

Here's a bike bridge that crosses a lake. DW is at the top in yellow. The bridge surface has a gentle stair-step configuration:

We'll finish with camperforce the week before Christmas then down to Tampa to spend the holidays with DD. Our plans this winter is to travel the southern coast out through Texas then up through NM and AZ. No set plans till Tucson escapade we then have a April HH Rally back in Texas before heading north to Colorado.

Wow reading some of these I can see now exactly why folks say "don't know how I had time to work before I retired". LOL.

 

Wonderful to read folks plans for the upcoming winter. Hopefully, if all goes to plan on the last two properties selling, this will be our last winter not being FT'rs, so we live one more winter vicariously through our fellow snowbirds and FT'rs that you all so kindly share on your blogs, websites and in the forums. Hubby just gone down to Fla for 9 weeks to prep for hitting the market yet again on Monday in the hope of a stronger market demand, cousin from Ireland visiting there for 2 weeks in November, then once that's all "hopefully" done and dusted, we can start to travel to our hearts content initially very very slowly exploring the west side. It's awful as many of you before have experienced trying to get properties sold and the results of which you use to plan your financial futures moving forwards.

I have no idea if you'll need such an item, but there is a company that makes handicap lifts for semi-tractors.

I was able to book most of the winter in Fort Lauderdale before Broward parks discontinued the resident discount. I'll spend some time reducing my nearby storage. There are a couple of week-long gaps that I was able to fill at State/Federal parks.

 

I'll be staying in SoCal until late November, then making a "quick" cross-country run. The only planned stop en route is a detour through Midland, TX to see the Chaparral cars at the Petroleum Museum.

Sometime in December head south from Victoria to spend some time in Baton Rouge helping out with Habitat . Evidently they had a water problem a while back. Reconstruction is or will be getting underway, Destin for New Years at the Emerald Isle, then Sebring, more Habitat then the Tampa RV Show then up and down the East Coast of Florida on more reconstruction after Mathew.

 

Head back up here end of April.

 

Will keep doing this so long as health holds out and I can drive.

The DW has graduated from her sling about two weeks ago. Doing much better and much happier to be free.

 

Still a little bossy in the kitchen.

 

I did realize not to get real good at house chores or she may have had me permanently doing them.

 

Actually she is really doing good so getting into and out of the truck will be good. I will be there when she is getting in or out.

 

So we are going to Florida for sure. At least November and December. A really close friends house was flooded in the storm that went up the west coast of Florida . So I'll be doing construction work for awhile instead of RV repair. Now to get going and miss the snow.

 

So plans can change as life goes on.

We left Alberta, Canada on the 9 th of October . We spent 3 days heading south through Salt Lake City, Price down to Goblin State Park area in SE Utah ....boondocked there for almost a week exploring with our RZR. We are currently boondocking just north of Moab doing the trails there. I am hoping there is a good sushi place in Moab as I'm getting a craving for sushi.

Our plans are to go possibly to Sedona and then Wickinburg and end up at Quartzsite where we will spend most of the winter. We also plan to spend some time in the Ogilby area by Yuma.

 

I am wondering if everyone else has been experiencing the high winds that seem to be prevalent throughout the west the last few days?

Those winds are not just in the West . We're in Southern Illinois and sat in a park yesterday due to high winds . Maybe not as high as out West , but , high enough to make us sit tight . Steady 20-25 and frequent gusts to 40 mph .
