Totaled: The Final Chapter

JPL

It has been 10 weeks since the 5er dropped off the side of the road and started a long wait to find out what was going to be the final fix. National General decided 2 weeks ago that our Fifth wheel was totaled because of the damage it incurred when I moved over a tad on a 2 lane road to give a on coming car a little more room. The right side tires on the fifth wheel dropped off for about 20 to 30 seconds while I just brought it back up onto the road having no idea of the damage that I had done. It really beat the inside of the 5er up. The frame and running gear took a beating as well as the inside walls, floor, and frame. During the past 2 weeks I got a quote for a new 43 Mesa Ridge from the dealer that we got the first one from. Then National General had to get 2 more quotes and then they would get us a new Fifth Wheel. It took them about a week and then they sent a check to the mortgage company to pay off the existing loan and then sent a check for the difference for the new one to our dealer. It ended up costing us $250 (our deductible) for a new 2017 43" Mesa Ridge. We have been busy loading it with a departure date of the 26th heading for the Keys. Plan on being gone about a month.

It seemed like it took for ever but once we were able to get everybody on the same "Totaled" page things really started to roll. I would recommend National General (Good Sams) to anyone that asked us about insurance. But the one thing that you should always ask "Am I covered like I think I am"? Be specific when you ask questions. Don't leave your agent asking yourself "what did he mean or What did he say" Find out for sure.

So now we get to start over again with a brand new unit. I am going to make myself be more cautious and careful. Even after 13 years of towing a 5er I learned a very valuable lesson and with that I will keep it between the white lines.

For you that have read my post about my Guardian Angle Randy who has helped keep the Volvo it good shape I'm going to asked you to keep him in your prayers because Sunday he fell off of a 12 foot ladder and broke "both" of his arms, broke bones in his face, had eye issues, some brain swelling, and a vertebra issue. The doctors have operated 3 times since Sunday. They have kept him heavily sedated for pain relief. Long term: lot of time to recover and a lot of PT to regain strength. He is a retired Navy Chief. So please keep him in your prayers. Pat

No, No, No - PLEASE..... it is not me. I've done enough falling and have no desire to get on a ladder - ever!

I am sorry to hear of the "other" Randy's accident. I pray that his recovery is successful. Good to hear Pat is back in the loop with a new fiver.

Randy I'm sorry that I had people thinging it was you that fell off of that ladder. You have gone through enough. The Randy I'm talking about lives 8 houses past us. Not 100 miles north of us! so really sorry about the confusion. But we are back in the loop and rearing to go. Underway Mon or Tues. I hope my issues can help others to get the insurance smart. Randy are you on the road now? Again sorry about the confusion. Pat
