homelesshartshorns
Looking for simple figures! I assume I can park at the station/museum in Durango and take a train ride up to Silverton and back? I would like to know the cost to park the rig and for two of us to do the train? MrSeas
The train website has all of that info.....
2gypsies
Here you go..... http://www.durangotrain.com/ We have not taken the train but we've RV'd and did Jeep tours out of Silverton often. It's a fun little mining town. From what I've heard, take the train up and the bus back. In the mountains, rain rolls in in the afternoon and if you're in the open car of the train you can't move inside. Haviland Lake national forest campground just north of Durango is very nice. Legendre1
We took that trip 2 years ago and it was awesome. We camped close by and drove in to park. I believe it was about 10.00 dollars in the lot across from the station. I would not have wanted to take my 5th wheel into the center of town.
hdrider
We rode the open car a couple weeks ago and I think we paid $89 each for our tickets but you can ride in enclesed cars that are more $$$ if you want. We camped outside of town and drove in and parked at a lot operated by the train station that cost us $8 to park for the day. We did see a couple motorhomes parked in the lot but can't tell you any more than that. If you opt for the open car be sure to bring something like sunglasses because there is some soot that floats in the air behind the engine that can and will get in your eyes (neither of us had a problem but did see others that did that did not wear eye protection). Newt
Another vote for the bus back. It's a much faster trip. Newt
jeomelia
Which ever you decide dress appropriately it can be sunny in Durango and cold and wet in Silverton.
