That's approximately 650 miles with 3 long mountain climbs and a lot of 2 lane hwy.

I would consider doing this in 2 stops and possibly 3 to enjoy some amazing areas.

The highways are filled with RV's at this time of the year and the going can get very slow.

Don't be surprised to take longer than your GPS or navigation system is telling you.

Option 1:

Vancouver to Revelstoke, at least 7 to 8 hours, Canyon Springs campground.

Revelstoke to Calgary at 6 to 7 hours

Option 2:

I would suggest a stop in the Salmon arm, Sicamoose area, lots to choose from but a must to have reservations at that time of the year. That trip takes me from Vancouver 6 hours towing a 14,500 lb fifth wheel.

Sicamoose to Banff is a very long day, 7 to 8 hours, Tunnel mountain campground.

Banff to Calgary: about 3 hours.

You might want to check out the Revelstoke and Golden areas for overnight stay. If you can maybe take a few days to savour much, on this 12 hr (by car) drive from Vancouver to Calgary. You can come in on the Crowsnest Pass (very nice) or the Trans Canada, spectacular views but depending on any road works/accidents, can take a lot longer than you anticipate.

When we have been on a direct destination between the two we typically dry dock overnight at Walmart or similar in Kamloops but if we are showing family from UK visiting, and doing the loop, out through the Crowsnest, we stop and start a lot as tons to see and do, with dry camping overnight at various locations (there's numerous including dump at Fernie). We then from Vancouver experience head up through the Okanagan and back around through to home on the Trans Canada again tons of stuff to stop and see and do and savour. Just saying FWIW depending on your time availability and goals. We've done this loop route probably a dozen times in the past 20+ years, and it never gets old with lots of varying places to stop and see and explore for just a few minutes to break up the travel to an hour or more in some areas.

Enjoy :)

Thank you for the suggestions. We have made reservations at the Salmon Arm Elks Lodge/Campground

(for Elks members only) for two nights to break up the trip before heading to Calgary.
