ewacowboy
2007 Freightliner M2-106 with Mercedes and Allison 6-speed. Just started our long range adventure and have noticed the engine temps run around 180 and the transmission around 165 cruising at 1650 RPM. When pulling a grade both temps run higher - which I would expect. While running steep grades the engine runs up to about 195 before the engine fan kicks on and the transmission can run as high as 200 - 205.....are these normal operating ranges? We're usually running the AC at the time. Jim Jim and Kellie 2017 DRV 38RSSA Mobile Suite 2016 Western Star 5700xe YouTube Channel

RBH
Sounds just like my Cat c-7. Perfectly normal.
skp51443
As long as I kept the transmission locked in a low enough gear that it wasn't shifting often I saw a bit less temp rise there than you are seeing, otherwise about the same. EagleEye
My CAT C-7 runs about the same on engine temp. Trans. has never reached 200 but has got up to about 180. ewacowboy
Cowboy - Just a question - could this be the first time you had real gauges? I know that my Ford truck the gages were just fancy idiot lights. I put real ones in and they read in the same temps as yours. The HDT temps run in the same range. Common temps for running engines. Hahaha....yes, that's why I'm asking. I've never seen a tranny run over 200 so I thought I'd ask. Thanks for the support guys! skp51443
My F-250 transmission had no problem getting to 300+ degrees if the torque converter unlocked on a full throttle hill climb and I didn't downshift fast. ewacowboy
For what it's worth....just had the truck serviced along with the transmission. Tech said that yellow line on the trans was 250... surprised me but was good info.
