Sanibel 3801 5th wheel

Hello,

My husband, Bruce, and I are in the planning stages for going full time within the next 1-2 years. We currently have a Kodiak 291 which we really enjoy, but will be trading in for a larger 5th wheel before we go full time. We have found the Sanibel 3801 which has the floor plan we want. I have looked for some reviews and only found a few and they were negative. My husband and I feel that usually only unsatisfied buyers leave reviews. We are wondering if anyone has experience with this RV or company and if you would share them with us. Thank you in advance.

Last year we looked a a new Sanibel and were not impressed with the build quality. They [ut on a lot of pretty glitz and bling, but do not use a solid foundation. The axles were a bit on the light side as were the tires.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Lauri, welcome to the Escapee forums! We are happy to have you join us here and we hope that you become a frequent contributor. We have many very experienced RV members who are more than happy to help and assist you on most any subject. :)

If you look at the RV rating articles, make sure that any you trust do not accept advertising from the RV manufacturers. Over the years I have been amazed by the number of review articles that are published in RV magazines with a full page advertisement in the same issue for the RV that is being reviewed. And in every case, the published review had very little criticism of the reviewed RV but many positives and praises for it. While I do not believe there are any reviewers of RVs that are completely unbiased, the closest to unbiased that I have found over many years has been the RV Consumer Group and I trust their information.

I believe that you are making a mistake to believe that only the bad reviews get published. That has not been my experience. There is far less risk in choosing an RV that poor reviews are difficult to find on it than to buy one where they are common. The Sanibel is built by Prime Time Mfg. and is a division of Forrest River who is a part of Berkshire Hathaway investments and has only existed for about 6 years so have a pretty short track record. I'll not comment on the RV since I have no experience with them, but I do have many years of RV background and I have found it is usually best to buy from one of the companies who have many years of good reputation, which isn't the case for this manufacturer.

I hope that you will stay with us and keep us posted about what you do choose to buy and your experiences with your chosen RV. Our advice here is free and it is always worth at least as much as you pay for it! :D
