raywen
We are planning to visit Zion and Bryce in April. Wondering how Hwy 12 is for pulling a rig (32') from Bryce to Torrey UT. Also would like to continue on Hwy 24 east to Hwy 95 south to Hwy 191. Has anyone traveled these roads? Thanks
trailertraveler
The UT-12 Scenic Byway is the topic of frequent discussion on some RV forums. There is a steep section and some areas with drop offs and narrow shoulders. Many, many RVs drive it everyday. Take a look for yourself on Google Earth or other satellite imagery. There are many attractions along the way that you will not see just by driving through (look at the link). We have spent over a week at each end exploring the area. The alternative route from the West side is US-89 to UT-62 to Browns Lane in Koosarem to UT-24 to Torrey and the East end of UT-12. UT-95 ia a pretty good two lane. There is a climb in and out of the canyon. Natural Bridges National Monument is worth visiting. However, the campground will not accomadate any but the smaller RVs. There is a spot where larger RVs can park while touring the Monument. Goblin Valley State Park not far North of the junction of UT-24 and UT-95 is worth a visit. TIMEYES
We drove the UT-12 Scenic Byway west to east two years ago in May (38' Class A DP towing a Jeep) and it was one of the most memorable trips we've had - for all good reasons. The road certainly lived up to its name and there were some spectacular places to camp / explore along the way. Just be aware of the weather, especially on the section known as the Hogback - I wouldn't want to drive that bit in windy conditions.
LindaH
UT-12 was one of the most beautiful drives we've taken...and that includes our two trips to Alaska!
2gypsies
We would also recommend Hwy 12 and the other highways you are considering. They are popular RVer routes with awesome scenery. We've done them often with our 40' motorhome. Have a great trip!
Al F
As stated above "There is a steep section and some areas with drop offs and narrow shoulders". So if the driver or passengers are subject to panic attacks on winding and steep roads with drop offs then don't take the road. Just keep in mind you drive on a normal roads without driving off the road all the time. So there is no reason why you should suddenly drive off the road just because you are in the mountains. It is a beautiful drive and lots to do all along the route. Take your time and drive slow.

I'm one of those people, but had no problems with UT-12.
trailertraveler
I certainly agree, that UT-12 is a very scenic route. If all you have time for is a drive through, then I would say do it. However, has I tried to indicate in my first post; there are many many places that you will not see simply by driving through. Also, while there are some scenic pullouts that may have room for large vehicles in times of light traffic, there are others that do not. Just a few of the places to explore that you will not see on a drive through are: Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Anasazi State Park(limited large vehicle parking), Calf Creek Falls, Hells Backbone, Burr Trail, and the Fishlake Scenic Byway.
