mrsrv567
Hey, I'd like some advice taking my travel trailer to TX. I travel with a disabled spouse, cat & dog. I've read that going thru I35 in Dallas/Ft Worth is like a parking lot & I'm not really good with a lot of traffic. I read that US281 (further west) is a better bet. Does anyone know how hilly this is or have a better route for me? I'm thinking of going I55 to I44, then I44 to I35, taking I35 to I35W & then I35 into San Antonio. We've never been to Texas before & my husband (whose not in very good health) wants to see the Alamo before he goes. We've traveled as far West as Wyoming, via I90; I;m used to the interstates. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We're planning a trip this spring -- 2016.
TXiceman
I really do not like traveling on I35, especially from Fort Worth to San Antonio. We use 281, 281 is good highway, some of it is 4 lane some is 2 lane. You do through a few smaller towns, but trip is not bad at all. Ken
GR "Scott" Cundiff
I agree with Ken on 281 being a good alternative. Let me add though, that going through Ft Worth on I35W is probably no bigger a deal than going through Chicago and St Louis on I55. Mostly, it's a matter of timing - you want to aim for mid-day (or mid-night!). Also, Austin is probably a bigger concern than Ft Worth is on the I35 route. Still, depending on your time constraints, 281 will be a nice drive for you. I'd stay on I44 clear to Wichita Falls and then work south to 281 to San Antonio.
