14L detroit

Put it on a dyno. Drive it and check the steering. Low mileage for a price that low.

The DD series 60 is a solid engine so far as i know.

While you are there, take a look and see if they have a reasonably priced pete 379 for me.

I have trouble making it that far east, i work in katy and live west.

Lou why do you think it would need an in frame at only 755k? I do agree you should have a dyno done on any truck if you can. If truck was serviced correctly it should be closer to 1 million miles.

You do need to verify that the shop can do a dyno on an ultra shift as we found that not all shops could as they did not have the right software for the transmission.

Glen we have the 14L in ours. The 12.7L they say gives better mileage but consider how many miles a year you plan to drive it and you will probably see than 2-3 mpg better won't make a lot if difference.

Ours is a mid roof and we got about 11 bobtail (which is not too often) and depending on head wind, we vary from 8-10 pulling our 18k trailer. Typically in the high 8's low 9's. I forget what ratio rear end we have.

Star, you have to understand how the EGR (and DPF on newer trucks) works. it shoves a PILE of the exhaust back into the intake along with all the soot etc. it creates extra wear and tear on the motor. Alot of the PRE-EGR motors seen 1 Million before they needed a inframe (provided they maintained them correctly) , the newer ones are 600-800k when they need a inframe. it all comes down to the fact of the EPA forcing the mandates on Motor MFG to comply.

seeing alot of newer trucks coming to market with lower miles due to the owners/fleets unloading them before they have to sink a pile of $$ into them for a in-frame.

THATS why i strongly suggest a DYNO. that will give you a clue on how soon that in-frame is coming your way. the Series 60 will have a Higher allowable BLOWBY numbers than other motors.

EDIT: clean up my formatting and add info about the dyno.

I would disable it if I got it. Egr not good for a diesel. Plenty of info on net about this. This is the first I've heard about short engine life with egr

the downside to disabling the EGR on big trucks is Increased EGT temperatures.... there are quite a few Detroit 14L modules

around to trick the ECM but none of the MFG are in business anymore as the EPA got ahold of them. they dont solve the bigger issue

of the increased engine wear/Existing engine wear.

Well, I thought Detroit was a good engine. Sounds like I should look for something else

It is a good engine. Do a delete on the EGR may raise the exhaust temp if your towing 60,000lbs, but I would seriously doubt 20k would make a difference from bobtail.

I would ask the dealer if he knows of a shop that can do a dyno. If he wants to sell the truck then let him do some leg work.

There was also a Volvo posted by somebody- Green, I-shift- V14? recently.

Dealer has no provision to dyno an ultrashift truck. Stated he doesn't change oil until sale complete for oil samples correctness. I would have to take it somewhere. Not having a cdl complicates this

call around and find a shop with a dyno that can do the ultrashift. if the dealer wants to sell it , they can send somebody over with the truck and meet them at the shop

and get the dyno results.... if the dealer doesnt want to cooperate or help, RUN the other way and find a different truck.
