Second Chance
We had our sights set on McKinney State Park near Austin toward the end of this week, but the park's site says they are closed due to flooding. The only military park (I'm retired Army) near Austin is at an NG installation and seems to be mostly filled with active guard and reserve folks. Anyone familiar with Bastrop RV Park (near Bastrop, obviously) or have any other suggestions? We're full-timers and the $40/night "resorts" are out of our price range. Thanks in advance,Rob
TreyandSusan
You may have very limited choices with the recent flooding in the area. When flooding happens in this area the RV parks fill very quickly with displaced area residents. We are from Austin and Winter there. We have a hard time finding a place in the winter especially after flooding. You may try these toward Bastrop ... TXiceman
I believe Bastrop Park is closed also. Up toward Georgetown is Cedar Brakes COE and and several private campgrounds as well. Ken

2gypsies
I would recommend you call any park you plan on staying. The flooding is widespread in that whole area.
oledude
In Bastrop there are two LCRA parks--North Shore and South Shore, these are nice parks.

Solo18
I am planning to get one of the 20 walk-in spots at Wilson H Fox COE campground at Granger Lake near Austin next week. As of today, they are still open.
Chalkie
While not in Austin proper, you might take a look at Inks Lake State Park. It's about 1 hour NW of downtown Austin. Nice area.
TreyandSusan
I will add that an important factor to consider is what you want to do in the Austin Area. Born and lived there for 50+ years and winter there each year. The traffic through the city (E to W and N to S) is pretty bad (understated) so choose the outer parks based on what you want to access more easily or what you hope to see while in the area. Not Quite Yet
We are in Oak Forrest RV Park east of Austin just off of FM969 on Decker Lake Road. They give GS discount. Quite, secure, pool, hot tub and pet friendly.
