U.S. 11 in New York

Looking at taking US 11 in New York on our way to Vermont in July. We would be getting on this route in the Watertown/Fort Drum area to US 2 in the far east/upper part of New York over into Vermont. We would be on this route on a Sunday. Anyone have any experience on the stretch of highway? Any major concerns other than the usual it's a 2 lane, during what I would guess is a peak travel time?

It's winterization time for us, but planning our next years adventures make it bearable (barely). :)

Thanks,

US 11 is good road all the way along - albeit 2 lane and you go through towns and villages. Take 781 - Ft Drum exit - from I-81 to US 11. That is a new road - under construction last time I was there and came across on NY 342. No bridge issues, but if you come out of Watertown on US 11 there is a 13 foot clearance south of NY 342.

My Dad always said when you are driving in the North Country watch out for farms with the house on one side of the road and the barn on the other, they go back and forth all the time. Not as prevalent as it used to be.

Wave to my cousins as you pass through Canton. Many years ago I made the 11 miles from Canton to Potsdam in 6 minutes flat with my Grandfathers '60 Thunderbird.

We're planning on taking that route as well, with a week or so stop to visit the cousins. I was born in Potsdam.
