finally03gt
So, DW and I are looking into MH as well at 5'r. If we go MH she would like to use her Explorer as a toad (I know it's big, but she'll spend a good bit of time in it and want's something nice) It is AWD and auto, so I'd have to tow 4 up. She didn't like the idea of trying to find space for a trailer. I've seen tow trucks use rear dollies, just wondering if you guys have seen anything like this: For the rear wheel, then use a traditional dolly for the front? Kirk W
Those rear dollies work very well for short distances and low speeds. I'd be pretty skeptical of travel on an interstate at those speeds and for those distances. The small wheels of the dolly will be turning far faster and more revelations each trip and I doubt would hold up.
finally03gt
That was exactly my thought. Just wondered if you folks had seen anything that was more suited to those conditions?
mocroc
My father owned a tow service so grew up around this stuff. The dollies shown as stated earlier were never designed of long distance or higher speeds that a toad normally endures. Don't do it. rocmoc n AZ/Mexico
Ronbo
Trade it in for a 4x4 jeep. The rest are companies that can install disconnects and hydraulic pumps. Don't know if that will work for your vehicle or the cost. The only other option is a trailer.
Dutch_12078
What year is the Explorer? As I recall, from 2011 on, the Explorer AWD's can be towed 4-down subject to speed and distance limits as specified in the owners manual. Remco may have more details on that... finally03gt
It is a 2015. Sport edition. No transfer case.
mrfrank
According to the FMCA towing guide, that vehicle can be towed 4 down, both FWD and 4WD versions, UNLESS it is equipped with a 2.0 4 cylinder ecoboost eigine. (V6 versions ok)
Selah
The Ford Explorer is a nice vehicle but there are several really nice SUVs that can be towed 4 down. Check out Motorhome's Dingy Towing Guide for a fairly comprehensive guide to which vehicles can be towed 4 down and what procedures are needed. Biker56
Ford says the 3.5L EcoBoost AWD can be towed 4 down. Get your drivers manual and look for recreation towing in it. Same as my MKS EcoBoost I pull 4 down. I had a Blue Ox base plate put on. Roadmaster didn't make one for my MKS.
