SWharton
We have some time on our hands and were wondering if anyone has traveled hwy 98. This looks much more appealing than I12/I10. Any gotchas we should know about? Thanks
LFDR3116
Do you mean Hwy 90 along the shoreline? If so, it's good thru MS for any size rig. It is 45 mph which we don't mind as we like to take life a little slower and as they say - smell the roses. I'd go thru the Mobile tunnel on I-10 (bigger rig friendly) and then drop down to 90. SWharton
No. I mean hwy 98 out of Mobile. Goes NW from Mobile. Really don't like I10 and in no rush.
Bill Joyce
98 to Hattiesburg is a decent road. We have not taken it West of Hattiesburg. 2004 40' Newmar Dutch Star DP towing an AWD 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid, Fulltimer July 2003 to October 2018, Parttimer now. SWharton
Thanks. I looked at the route in the Truckers book but prefer real life experiences on roads.
Tex Bigfoot
last time I run 98 it was a fairly good road . You will have a lot of small towns to go through and a lot of speed zones that need to be adhered to very closely. So watch your speed and if you are not in a hurry it is pretty country. coachmac9
The parts of the route that we have traveled are good but like others have said, watch out for the speed limits in all the small towns along the way...we also hate driving the interstates and always try to take routes such as this. We love stopping at the small towns and just looking at all the old "downtown" buildings. We have discovered some real gems that we would have never seen if we had been cruising the interstates. Good luck on your travels and be sure to report back on that route and share any unusual or pretty sights along the way.
SWharton
Thanks for the input. We start our wandering that way on Thursday, need to be in Nacadoches on Sunday for an appt. Looking forward to the new experience and new roads.
StarDreamers.us
As it was shared! WATCH the SPEED ZONES! Many small towns make a living off the lead foot drivers. They really like out of state plates. Safe Travels! Tex Bigfoot
SWharton I was just curious as to how this road turned out ruff , or a nice drive?
SWharton
It was fine. Encountered a couple low bridges which we didn't know about but that is on us for not checking the route. Road seemed fine to us. Reasonably scenic, just chugged along at our own pace. Did not find that speed was an issue. Sorry about not getting back.
