lappir
I have an event coming up the end of September and may need a small quiet generator to provide power to a few electric "Roasters" and a couple induction hot plates. The closest place that comes up with a quick search on the internet is a Home Depot that "May" have a Honda available at $52 per day. It's a 90 mile drive each way and I could probably make the trip to pick it up, use it for the desired purpose and then return it in less then 24 hours it would be a struggle. I have a very loud heavy generator that I could use but the last time it was used for an event it was rather distracting and everyone was extremely happy when it was turned off. Do dealers sometimes have used units they might rent? I am going to check it out. Rod
Rif
Rod, You say a few roasters and a couple induction hot plates. Seems to me that you are going to need a pretty good sized generator to power all those devices at the same time. Figure 1500 watts each. Just two hot plates will require more than a 3000 watt Honda can handle since it is only rated for 2800 continuous. I'd do the math and be thinking about a lot bigger generator. Jaydrvr
Check the actual consumption. Yes, the hot plates are energy hogs, but typical roasters are often only 200-250 watts. 3k would probably be enough. Home Depot typically only has loud gensets.. Most of the spec's I read show a rating of 1450 watts for roasters.

A couple of months ago relatives rented a generator from Hope Depot in Omaha, Ne. It was a 3000 watt Honda. Very quiet.
Darryl&Rita
Most of the spec's I read show a rating of 1450 watts for roasters. Demand factor comes into play. They won't pull 1400 w all the time they're plugged in.
chirakawa
There may be an Ace Hardware closer than the Home Depot. I've found several Ace locations which rent equipment.
lappir
Thank you for the replies. The induction hot plates don't seem to pull much and I think I would pre heat the roasters and then just keep them on low. The Ace hardware in town suffered a fire next door and hasn't opened back up. I only did a Honda Generator Rental search and of course the Home Depot was the only thing that came up. lappir
Found a pair of 2000 watt Honda's with connection ability in Pella Iowa. Have reserved them for our use. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and comments. Rod
