wildmandmc
here is a thought, as i have had plenty of experience running forums. one of the best ways to stop spammers. is to disable html post until a certain number of post have been made. most spammers will not bother to complete this number thus reducing amt of spammers signing up for site. skp51443
They did something similar with the PM system here to keep spammers from abusing it. A lot of our spammers here never make a post, all their spam stuff goes in their profile. The smart ones anyway, usually someone will report a spam post if one of the weekend spam zappers doesn't see it first but a spammy profile can sit until someone with zapping power takes the time to go in and dig them out. You can get a look at the new profiles using the new content function and see the ones that haven't been zapped yet. You can also report spammy ones and get them zapped sooner rather than later. Spammers aren't usually looking for customers here, what they want is for their links to be seen by the search engines which raises their search ranking. If they get a sale or two here that is gravy but not the primary motivation for the spammers we usually see here. That makes zapping them fast important which is why I suggest reporting, often that will get a spammer gone hours before one of the zappers would see it. The zappers are still important and catch a lot of spam but more reports would be less work for them and get rid of a lot of the spam faster when an admin type is available to respond to the reports. skp51443
Send in a report, it is likely to get acted on a lot sooner than a PM. There is a report link on every profile, just like on posts and topics so just click it, put down spam and hit the submit button.
