SWharton
For October, 2015 Looking for an inexpensive place to stay around Ft. Myers. Want to spend 3-4 days exploring Sanibel and the area. We have PA. Just need a good recommendation. We have a 36 MH with toad. Would appreciate other things to do while we are there. Never been to FL other than Orlando with kids. Biker56
Looks like about 5 PA campgrounds in that area. With a toad, any of them should work. Other things to do while in the area. Also a day trip to Shark Valley could be done.
mrebele
We stayed at WP Franklin COE Park. It's a beautiful park outside Ft Myers but not too far away. No sewer hookup but they have a dump station. Last winter it was $12.00 per night with the senior pass. It may have gone up since then.

SWharton
Thanks for the specifics. The campgrounds I was looking at last night online seemed to be all sardine cans. I will look into the COE, didn't realize there were COE in FL. I will also check out Pine Island as a backup. We are having sticker shock with the price of campgrounds in FL, even the state parks are pricey. Also discovered that everything is booked, didn't realize you could book almost a year in advance. I never know my plans that far in advance, couple months yes, a year, no way.

Bill Joyce
From Pine Island you can easily get to the Ragged Ass Saloon for dinner and drinks, http://www.raggedasssaloon.com/.
Dog Folks
Don't forget to visit the Edsion/Ford winter home in Ft. Myers and the J Darling Ding wildlife center on Sanibel. The COE at Franklin Locks is very difficult to get reservations in the winter. Reserve now or have a plan "B."
SWharton
Question of WP Franklin. The park writeup says 35' limit, we are 36-37+toad. Do you think there would be any problems with length. We looked at the park on Google Earth and don't see any reason for the length restriction. Thanks
mrebele
I looked at October at WP Franklin and they still have some openings for October, depending on your dates. From what I saw when I was there, there's not a bad site in the park. Almost all are waterfront on the Coloosahatchee River. We were able to see dolphins right from our site. We like open spaces and hate to feel closed in so we choose our parks carefully. This one turned out to be one of my favorites.

chiefneon
Howdy! We are staying at Pioneer Village in North Ft Myers now. By far the nicest RV park in the area is Gulf Waters RV Resort. We'll be moving to there next week simply because it is closer to the beach area and Sanibel island. They have a summer special good through November $230.25 for a week. http://gulfwatersrv.com/ "Happy Trails" Chiefneon
SWharton
Thanks for all the pointers. I just made a reservation for WP Franklin for 5 days, looking forward to it. I am interested inf visiting FL but making all these reservations is a big pest but I knowi needs to be done. We generally don't make reservations, start thinking about out end point around 1 in the afternoon. Just find reservations very limiting. Learned one thing though. Went to make a reservation at Sumter Oaks, Escapee system showed lots of vacancies but couldn't get the system to work so I called. Made the reservation but also discovered the Escapee system isn't updated each day, better to call.
Bill Joyce
you guys coming back to lee county again this yr. We will be in Mesa Arizona this year. It will probably be a couple years before we get back to Lee County. We did make friends there this time, due to RVillage.com, unlike our previous stays in the area. In winter they used to require staying all of January and March to stay there in February. I do not know if that is still true.
