The hwy department closed the road near Essex Mt yesterday because of a forest fire. They may close the railroad there also.

I was past there on Wednesday and did notice a lot of smoke.

Also the smoke in the flathead valley is getting worse. Sometimes only being able to see three miles if that.

Safe Travels. Vern

Ugly here in the Swan-Seeley Valley, too. Been smoky for close to a week now; bummer for residents & visitors alike. Our visiting friends decided it just wasn't worth going to Glacier if they couldn't see anything; even Wayfarer's State Park right on Flathead Lake in Bigfork doesn't have exactly inspiring views right now. Scary stuff for all the firefighters. Think good thoughts that they all stay safe!

We left Swan Lake Forest Service Campground this AM. Yesterday afternoon you could barely see the west side of the lake. But up in the CG it wasn't too bad. We are now parked at the Elks Lodge in Kalispell and it borders Kalispell City Airport. In the last 15 minutes three DNR helicopters have landed as darkness is setting in and along with the smoke.

We are spending our second summer at Farragut State Park north of Couer d'Alene, Idaho and the air quality has been just dreadful the past couple of weeks. With fires north, south, east and west of us, we are in smoke no matter which way the wind is blowing. We need rain in the worst way...

We left Lake Koocanosa (Libby, MT.) this morning (Sunday) as the smoke was coming and going and bad at times. So we are now in Coeur d Laine, ID. at the Elks Lodge. As we left Libby on US 2, we ran into rain between Troy, MT. and Bonners Ferry, ID. It rained hard the whole way to CdA. Hopefully, it will keep it up.
