RV_
"A newly repaired H-model B-52 bomber has departed from Kelly Field for the first time since the days of the former Kelly AFB. Boeing San Antonio finished a repair work package for the massive plane on July 23, which was ahead of schedule, Boeing spokesman Lorenzo Cortes said Thursday. Cortes said he'd been waiting for Air Force approval to announce the news and release a photo of the B-52 setting off for return to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana. B-52 work had not been done on the property since it was Kelly AFB, before Boeing became one of the first commercial tenants of what's now Port San Antonio. The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission in 1995 slated Kelly for closure. "Overall it was a new customer segment, since we hadn't touched a bomber since the Kelly days," Cortes said. "And the ability to turn it around quickly, that could lead to more work."
