Coal City IL Campground Decimated

Recommended Posts

Horrible destruction at one of the biggest campgrounds when an EF-4 tornado tore through. I think there are 6000 campsites there. Hoping all are safe.

The park is Woodhaven Lakes and from their website it was not decimated as first reported. Looking at their maps it does appear to be a huge park with one heck of a bunch of sites with park models or RVs for the most part. The website's property maps show 29 sections, some of which seem to have site numbers well over 200, so there might be about 6000 of them! They also have controlled access into three of those sections so that would seem to be where all of the damage was. They also have a section for tornado information and a page of pictures of the damages in their park.

Having been involved int the clean-up and recovery of the damage from the tornado that hit Van, TX, I can tell you that if you loose a home or even one of those RV lots, it was devastating to you even if few others feel that way.

Woodhaven Lakes is located in Sublette Illinois. Coal city is 74 miles to the east of Sublette.

It is on 1,756 acres and there are approximately 6,100 sites. We are a property owner. Our trailer was damaged by the tornado and may be totaled.
