David1941
Google maps shows similar mileage and driving time, but I see a lot more road work icons on I-90 than on I-80/I-84.I'm pulling a 35 ft. fiver with a Ram 3500 diesel.Any suggestions much appreciated!David
Bill w/bus
Easy decision. I90 the NY Thurway will be expensive in tolls. NY fuel price is among the highest. On week ago I saw $3.50 and higher for diesel. I80 to I84 route is more traffic around Scranton,PA and all of CT. 80 had a few construction zones. 84 in PA one construction area, NY and one if memory serves. 84 in CT is just rough and full of vehicles. The rest area at Exit 2, Danbury, has a section for RV's and a dump station. That would put you about 3-4 hours from Poirtsmouth if you overnighted. Don't leave before 9AM. Use I691 at Exit 27 or 28 towards Meriden. Then north on I91 to junction with I84. Hartford on 84 can be a miserable drive. Several left exits and entrances. Use I90 all the way to I495. Worcester, MA is another area to be avoided if possible. On I84 once you cross into NY take Exit 1 and turn south (left) on NJ23 for fuel. There are numerous fuel stations in the next mile on both sides. Savings about 60 to 70 cents per gal. Reverse your track and right back onto 84. Best fuel price in coastal NH is in Seabrook on US1. Diesel price was $2.79/gal. Good luck Bill
