flat towing a 2012 cadillac srx

Recommended Posts

We had a blue ox installed on our toad and have also had the air force one braking system installed. our owners manual does not give clear instructions regarding flat towing. When you are hooked up do the brake lights stay on the cadillac even if the coach is not turned on?

First let me welcome you to the Escapee forums. We are happy to have you and we will do all that we can to be of assistance.

Looking to see what REMCO has to say about this I found the following...

  • Towable as is with speed and/or distance restrictions. Please see Owner's Manual for confirmation and procedures.
  • It is not recommended to tow this vehicle over 65MPH
  • When towing for an extended period of time, start the vehicle as often as possible and allow it to run for five minutes to prevent battery drain.
  • Please check your Owner's Manual for confirmation. Follow procedures within Owner's Manual for guidance when towing this vehicle.

As to the brake lights, in order for the brake lights to operate when you apply the RV brake you must have them connected by an umbilical cord, just you would for a trailer. There is no magic involved but to use the existing tail lights you also will have to get an isolator device to prevent the electricity from the RV from back-feeding into the car's electrical system. There are kits for this or you can have a dealer wire it for you.
