dewilso
Was considering Wisconsin again this summer, but think I'll pass. http://rvdailyreport.com/campground/camping-fee-hits-33-under-new-wisconsin-budget-plan/
hdonlybob
NOT defending us here in WI...agree this is not smart, however, you need to remember that our Interstates are free, and and our state and local sales taxes are less that a lot of surrounding states.... Just saying.. Cheers, Bob
Daveh
Do you folks still have a 2 billion projected shortfall? I don't think raising the camping fees will get you there.
Daveh
Minnesota only has two short toll roads inminneapolis and I don't believe Mich or Iowa ever had a toll road. Sorry to jump on your state but there really is no statistical defense: Wisconsin's 2015 Business Tax Climate Index Ranks 43 Wisconsin ranks 43rd in the Tax Foundation's State Business Tax Climate Index. The Index compares the states in five areas of taxation that impact business: corporate taxes, individual income taxes, sales taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, and taxes on property, including residential and commercial property. The ranks of neighboring states are as follows: Iowa, 41st, Minnesota, 47th, Michigan, 13th, and Illinois, 31st.
Kirk W
Interesting proposal. At least the aren't closing facilities. More information is Wisconsin State Journal.
GR "Scott" Cundiff
While we love state parks we seldom stay in them because of their cost. We're going to spend a month or so in Wisconsin later this summer and I never even considered using their state parks but focused on county parks instead. However, the price increases aren't especially out of line with that of other state parks in the region - some of the Indiana parks top out even higher and as I recall New York was even higher than Indiana. While we need to watch our camping fees closer than those who are just going out for the weekend, I do wonder at what price even weekenders will start looking elsewhere. Twotoes
Custer State Park in So Dakota is still only $25 per night (plus tax) for an electric site.
earlvillestu
As someone who travels I90 round trip between Rockford, IL, and Janesville, WI, once or twice every week, I am happy to pay the Illinois Tollway fare. Six lanes and in beautiful shape. Cross the state line into Wisconsin and you've on a four-lane washboard. (Yes, I know there are plans to widen and resurface it. We'll see.) OH, you are not jumping on my state at all...as I said it was not necessarily a good idea.. However, comparing tourism in WI to Iowa is like comparing Apples to peanuts. Same for Michigan. As far as road conditions go, the absolute worst year around is from Rockford to Chicago....., and 694 around Minn is no piece of carpet either... Iowa main roads are decent, but try getting off the main roads, and you will find mostly gravel roads... I am basing this on my many many years (71 years old) of traveling these areas substantially for sales work, as well as motorcycling and RVing... Average Sales taxes are approximately: WI....5.5% Iowa...7% MN...7.3 IL....9% And to clarify, I mean NO DISRESPECT to the other states listed here... There are many fine tourist things to see in them also...yes even Illinois... lol And I also realize WI gas tax is way higher too... rdickinson
3 bucks?? If it can be pulled off, my plan is to leave Vancouver BC for Eugene> Sparks> around Utah red rock parks>Denver area then out to Wisconsin to see some tractor pulls in June/July. 3 bucks is like 3 miles of driving. It will take a lot more than that to cause a change in my plans. If you go to www.Campgulf.com spots cost double that.
