Phil Saran
If you do not buy from PPL I would recommend you drive up the fwy a bit to Alvarado TX and go visit Motorhome Specialist, they sell both new and used MH of all sizes. We ended up buying a new gas MH from them, but also looked at many used rigs on their property (all 160 acres). Just my $0.02 cents. Phil and Micky
Hi all, We worked a deal and took delivery of our new (to us) RV today. My first time driving it in this crazy Houston traffic was a bit un-nerving but it went well. I even backed the rig into a temporary site at PPL this afternoon and I made it the first time thanks to a You-tube video I've watched several times and with the help of my DW of course. Any recommendations on a surge protector? Do I need one for 50 Amp? Phil
Phil and Micky
Also, Are these all-in-one sewer kits a good buy or do you recommend I piece something together? Phil
Kirk W
Any recommendations on a surge protector? Do I need one for 50 Amp? I recommend either the Surge Guard or the Progressive EMS and would buy the one that you can get the better price on as both work and do what they are designed to do. If you have a 50A power cord that you do need the 50A model. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... Mark and Dale Bruss
Do I need one for both 30A and 50A? You get an EMS for the shore power feed of you RV. If you have a 50 amp shore power feed, you use a 50 EMS. If you are in a situation where only 30 amp is available, you will use the 30A-50A dogbone adapter with the EMS plugged into the 50A end of the adapter. Thanks for clearing that up... that makes sense. So the 50A surge protector will protect everything that's plugged in to it, even if it's stepped down to 30A, eh? Kirk W
So the 50A surge protector will protect everything that's plugged in to it, even if it's stepped down to 30A, eh? They don't have anything to do with the amount of current drawn, that is a function of the circuit breakers in the RV and the power pedestal. What these devices do is to monitor voltages and watch for surges, sags and erratic changes. They protect from either excessively low or high supply voltages as well as lightning strike type of surges and things of that nature. Since current is a factor of the amount of electrical load, versus the voltage, the do provide some protection in that area, but the circuit breakers are what limits the maximum amount of current draw and the ground fault devices protect for leakage currents. When you use an adapter to connect the 50A shore power cord to a 30A outlet, you just connect the adapter between the line monitor device and the pedestal. Since what they monitor is voltage related issues, that part works exactly the same. Good travelin !...............KirkFull-time 11+ years...... sandsys
You can safely go either way with the dump hose kit vs parts depending on what's the best price. That may vary depending on where you buy. My van came with a free hose but it was such a cheap one I gave it right back before departure and bought a Rhino Flex system. That's not the first time I gave back parts before departure either. Our fist van came with a tiny coffee pot but we don't drink coffee and the CCC was so limited we didn't want to keep it. The seller was happy to have it for her office.
