Join Escapees, sign up for any local chapters in areas you'll be spending time. As you get a chance visit their local rallies, make friends and get advice on local camping, repair spots and most important (to me anyway) good places to eat.

A copy of the Day's End boondocking and Good-Guys list (services) is also a good investment once you are an Escapee.

First rule of computer consulting:

Sell a customer a Linux computer and you'll eat for a day.

Sell a customer a Windows computer and you'll eat for a lifetime.

Do you have a mail service selected as yet?

Will you be changing domicile, and if so, which one?

Get a full-timer clause on your RV insurance.

Join Passport America and/or Happy Campers.

What do you plan to do for internet access?

What about cell phones, keep or change services?

Does your bank offer good access for travel?

Start figuring out what you will actually cook in your RV thus what cookware you will need to bring with you.

Analyze your towel and bedding use--how many sets do you need to bring?

Clean out your closets--what do you wear vs. what do you store there?

What hobbies do you have and what gear from those will you want to bring?

Decide what trip planning system you will use and get rid of anything else. Then start gathering travel stop ideas.

I found all that to be fun--hope you do, too.

Thanks to all for the comments!

We plan to select Texas as our domicile. We love Texas and it makes the most overall sense from a cost/healthcare perspective since we are under 65.

We'll join Escapees this summer and utilize the mail service as well.

We have AT&T service and will use our phones as hotspots along with a booster which will be installed in the fifth wheel.

In addition to joining Escapees, we are also going to join Passport America and the review our needs as we travel (thinking about 1000 Trails but need to analyze).

I was planning on using Google for travel along with a RV/Truck GPS such as an RVND7720 and Roadside America/State Visitor websites.

Our current bank is South Carolina based so we will switch to Wells Fargo once we change our domicile (our branch will be in Texas).

It's definitely a lot to do but it's exciting.

That's great Whats Next? We look forward to meeting you sometime.

I attended the Escapee's Boot Camp and Escapade last May. I enjoyed them, learned a lot, and would also recommend them. That said, I recommend going way out of you way, literally if necessary, to attend the Nat'l HDT Rally in Hutchinson KS in October. If you have already been to one, you know why I am making that recommendation.

Thanks Jim.

We attended the Rally in Hutch last year for 3 days but we had to stay in a hotel. Learned a lot and actually made our final decision on the HDT at the Rally. Met lots of great folks.

We hope to have our full rig ready by September this year so the Nat'l Rally is on our agenda, definitely. It's a great experience.
