bigredhdt
My air lines that are near the frame have been painted. I need to replace a leaking valve. Does anyone clean off the paint before making new connections using push to connect fittings? If so what is your process?
phoenix2013
Painted, dirty, oily, old lines will not seat properly in push to connect fittings. Only two "real" solutions. replace the whole length with brand new line to give yourself two fresh ends going into push to connect fittings, or replace the offending fitting with brass DOT compression fitting with ferrule and inserts which will squeeze the old line to seal it. bigredhdt
I was afraid of that. How do you get the lines off of the air tanks?
Darryl&Rita
With any luck, flexing the line will pop 80% of the paint off easy. The balance will need to be picked off with a plastic paint scraper, or similar. A fingernail works, if you're careful. Jack Mayer
I've been successful in scraping off the paint with my fingernails as Darryl said. But you have to get it all. Mastercraft
Carburetor cleaner works to soften up the paint. Work at it with a rag and a few treatments of carb cleaner at the end where you want to make a new connection. 2009 Volvo 780 D16 535hp 1850 ft-lbs I shift 3.36 Thermo King Tripac APU DIY Bed and Frame Extension ET Hitch, Stellar EC2000, EcoGen 6K 2002 F350 CC Dually w/ Lance 1181 2012 Mini Cooper S 2007 Teton Royal Freedom " The only place you will find success before work is the dictionary "
