aunut
Thinking about heading sown to New Orleans shortly. I want a nice place close to the French Quarter, but the French Quarter RV Resort is over $90/night. That leaves less money for gumbo and Po Boys. Has anyone stayed at Ponchartrain Landing or have other suggestions? Thanks
Ray,IN
I haven't been to NOLA before, but thanks for reminding me to make reservations for our 20th anniversary. Just got off the phone with French Quarter resort, mission accomplished. After reading a few pages of reviews for NOLA RV parks, Poncchartrain Landing is #2 in the ratings. All others were either in bad neighborhoods, or 20 minutes or more from the French Quarter. I would rather spend the money and stay within walking distance to the FQ, than fight the traffic. nana25k
We've stayed and loved it. The shuttles to the French Qrt were helpful. No driving and parking own car needed
aunut
Nevermind. They both are filled up next weekend. Had to get the last site at KOA.
lenp
We always stay at one of the State Parks on the North Shore (bit of a commute) or Bayou Segnette on the west bank which is very economical and you can jump on the west bank expressway and drive to the (free) ferry in Algiers, leave your car on the west bank and the ferry drops you off at the foot of Canal Street. There is a parking charge ($10???) in Algiers but it would be even more in NOLA if you can find a spot. Lenp
rick werth
We are staying at Fairview-Riverside State Park across the lake on the north shore in Madisonville and love it. Very easy access to the Lake P Causway and in/out of NO. Right on the river. Very close to lots of very good restaurants.
Bob Vaughn
Last spring we stopped in NO on our way out west.....Getting off I-10 to go to the Joint Base was a total nightmare then getting back to the interstate was equally as bad. The roads were poorly marked and towing a 5th wheel on increased the anxiety......
teacher's pet
We also have done Bayou Segnette for a trip to N.O, found it to be a very reasonable state park in price and facilities.
Pat & Pete
We've been advised by more than a few folks to be off the streets by dark .
folivier
We've been advised by more than a few folks to be off the streets by dark . Just walk with other folks and you'll be fine. The local scum target singles or couples. Be aware of your surroundings like in any other city, stay near lighted areas, etc.
NJTroy
Another vote for Bayoo Segnette. We loved it when we were with the kids quite a few years ago and plan to head back in the next few years now that our niece lives in NOLA.

Be aware of your surroundings like in any other city, stay near lighted areas, etc. That's all good and well ... We simply stay away from places like that . You are not the first I've read saying the same thing. I've read that on a good day it's a 20 minute drive to the french quarter from there. Al F
In January we stayed at Bayou Segnette SP. It took about 20-25 minutes to drive to the free passenger ferry in Algiers. Parking was $5 for all day. I understand the parking price is variable for special occasions though. The state park was very nice.
