TxCowboy
I was just casually informed by my daughter that my clean, late model, white tennis shoes are "old people" shoes. When the heck did that happen? When did white tennis shoes suddenly make me "old"? So, I'm off to the store to buy some, uhm, "non-old people" tennis shoes. EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to stutter in the thread title. Seems there's an extra "n" in tennis.
dzwiss
You think you are getting the raz? Mine are white with Velcro fasteners. Oh, and by the way, they are not "tennis shoes" any more either.

TxCowboy
And what are they called now? Sport shoes? Running shoes? Is there a special "I'm working on the RV" shoe? Want to make sure I ask for the right thing.
Big Greg
Well.......some of us are old men. If the shoe fits wear it. Greg
Chalkie
I don't think is it the color as much as the brand. If white was an old people shoe why would my 13 yo granddaughter just have these? http://www.vans.com/shop/womens-shoes-classics/studs-authentic-gore-white And my 18 yo grandson just had to have these? http://www.converse.com/regular/chuck-taylor-classic-colors/M7650_030.html There are favored brands, like Vans, Converse, Doc Martins and a few others. I know I get razzed by the kids about my Skechers, but I simply don't care because they are really comfortable.
bobsallyh
Chalkie, good subject. A friend and myself for several winters here in Yuma have done an unfunded, non-scientific study what sneaks, tennies, or any other name the old farts wear here. By far and away, white New Balance 608, and now 608V3's are the leader. Just today at the airshow here in Yuma, three guys sitting in front of us, two had 608' and the 3rd had 431's. RV_
I wear A/C for the yard and dirty work. You made me go pull out my NBs to tell y'all the model number to show I didn't wear no old geezer sneaker. I smugly read until here knowing my superior taste in footwear would not be geezer. My new Balances are the - Aaccck! I also have 608v2s! They aren't Velcro however. I wear these for slippers at home: http://www.crocs.com/crocs-classic/10001,default,pd.html?cid=410&cgid=mens-footwear-under-50#start=1 but out in nice weather I wear these: http://www.crocs.com/crocs-yukon-sport/10931,default,pd.html?cid=30Q&cgid=mens-footwear-under-50#start=26&sz=56 But yes, I wear NB 608V2s too. I have boots and loafers in leather and a lace up dress casual pair of Timberlands that are probably now geezer too! Oh well. I guess wearing basketball new style sneaks and grunting when we get up from a low chair and no longer jump up into the pickup bed doesn't match a teenybopper's taste. I fond myself in good geezer company and that makes it fine. (Muttering: Geezer sneaks indeed!)
Kirk W
Might be the color at least to some degree...... I wear Nikes, usually black or brown. But I also have boots, both cowboy & hiking that I wear at times and I keep a pair of dress shoes for some occasions.
WeBeFulltimers
I have HATED white shoes all my adult life, but I do believe in wearing a belt AND suspenders...take no chances! Bahahahaha...
Alie&Jim's Carrilite
From what my daughter says, it's the velcro that qualifies the shoe as "Old people's shoes" Personally, I wear boat shoes, hiking boots, crocs, and flip flops in the summer. There might be a pair of dress shoes's hiding somewhere under the bed though.
Chalkie
I have HATED white shoes all my adult life.... I have hated white shoes ALL my life. When they get dirty look like s...... um, they look bad and are too much work to keep clean.
RV_
The problem is they are now leather mostly. My old Keds and PF Flyers were getting white again, laces and all, when I heard a loud rhythmic thumping coming from the dryer! I wore a lot of pinky toe holes in my tenny runners! kccwoodworks
I guess I've been old for the past thirty years. (I'm 62) I've been wearing white for a long time. I currently have four pair in varying stages of dirty. When they don't bleach clean I toss them and buy another pair. My kids were right, I am old! TxCowboy
After reading all of these nice responses, I feel safe that my white sneakers, tennis shoes, or whatever they are call are perfectly fine. And, fortunately, there is no Velcro on them!

grumpydoc
Well, you're OK until someone calls you a Q-tip! Then you know you are really old. (yeah, I didn't know what a Q-tip was either so I had to ask-it's someone with white hair and white tennies) Best Wishes, Jay

Barbaraok
Face it - no matter what you wear you look better than some of the outfits one sees on the golf course - with white shoes, loud plaid pants, multi-hue shirts and differing hats. BTW - make sure you are covering that thinning white fuzz on top with a hat - believe me you don't want to go through scalp surgery + electron-beam radiation treatment if you can avoid it! And make sure the hat (or hair) covers the ears. I was amazed when Dave was having his scalp surgery at the number of people having cancers removed from their upper ear lobes and their nose tips. wa_desert_rat
Fads change more often that we can keep up. You know the fad about wearing your baseball cap backwards? Well I picked up the 14 yr old (girl) and for fun waited in my Jeep (the only car she will let me pick her up in without hiding her face) and she looked at me and said, "Only old guys wear their baseball caps backwards." "Really?", I asked. "I thought it was young guys." She shook her head and looked at me pityingly. "My DAD wears his baseball cap backwards!" Then I got it. Cloud 9
White Bucks? Yep, PAt Boone wore them ,(mother liked him).clean cut, not like Elvis. Re: tennys, they were cool, slightly worn and having been through the wash a few cycles. Combined with a white T shirt and faded jeans.
Kinsa
If you go into Academy Sports, Dick's Sporting Goods, or any other place that sells running shoes, you will see that bright, bold colors are the trend nowadays. Or watch a jogger next time they go by; chances are that their shoes are the brightest part of their outfit. Bright. Bold. Un-white.
