genecolleen
I was wondering if anyone that has an electric hose reel uses a heated water hose? I've been filling up my tank and running the pump, but would really like to hook up and forget. I realize the hose diameter is larger so I'll have less hose... Any other issues with this plan? Moab is beautiful this time of year!!
Pat & Pete
I use a heat tape with a built in auto control . It turns on and off at 37° . I wrap the feed spigot and incoming hose with the heat tape and cover both with preformed foam pipe insulation . The 30 foot heat tape is more than long enough , so I route what tape not used outside inside the water bay . We've never had a frozen issue since . I do this when we set up for the Winter and dismantle when we get ready to head North . It takes very little time on either end of our stay and I never worry about frozen anything . bigjim
unless there is a power failure in your area. If you can then switch to a gennie till the power comes back you may be ok. I always sweat a power outage as I have no generator.
Bob A
I might just disconnect the hose on the reel and use the electric hose when in cold weather reconnect reel for summer
TXiceman
Keeping the hose from freezing is just part of the problem. You also need to keep the water regulator and hose bib or faucet from freezing. Ken

I always sweat a power outage as I have no generator. That's were the preformed pipe insulation comes in handy . Not only does it keep the hose warmer while the tape is on , it also protects it from freezing for a much longer time . Come to think of it , we have had power outages of varying lengths ( generally shorter times ) and had no ill effects . We do have a generator on board , just in case .
