Howdy All.

I'll be heading to Death Valley, plan to be there on or about March 1st. Furnace Creek camp ground is booked till summer for any site that my truck-trailer would fit in. Does anyone have any information on the NPS camp grounds at Stove Pipe Wells, and Sunset, as to HTD-45 foot long trailer accessibility?

The research I have done tells me that there are no hookups at either of these camp grounds thats OK, I am self contained, I'll only need to fill with water and dump, according to the web site both camp grounds have water and a dump site. Any other information anyone can share as to getting into, out of and camping at these sites would be most appreciated, THANKS.

It has been about 6-8 years since we camped in the park, and we had no problems in either Furnace Creek, or Stove Pipe. However, we were pulling with a MDT at that time. We did have to park the truck in an overflow area at Furnace Creek, but not at Stove Pipe. Unless things have changed, I don't think you would have any trouble at either place. Sunset is up on a hill kinda' and the spaces are a little smaller, but Furnace Creek is right there, and it is just like a Walmart. I think we were there every time in April. We now always desert camp over by Tecopa Hot Springs(not so many spring breakers). It is a ways off, but anywhere you go in that park is a ways off. Good luck, Dick T

Stovepipe Wells is two different campgrounds. One is NPS with no hookups. The other is run by Xanterra and has large full-hookup sites for ~20 RVs. Surprisingly, when we were there two years ago they honored the federal senior pass for a 50% discount.

Here's a link to the Xanterra-run campground: http://www.stovepipewells.com/index.html

Howdy docj,

The Xanterra, camp ground is booked for the dates I'll be in the area.

We easily fit in Stovetop Wells - dry camping with our 40' motorhome. We also stayed at Furnace Creek - dry camping. Sorry, I don't recall 'exactly' how long the spaces are that would accommodate your rig.

Howdy 2gypsies,

Thanks for the info on Stove Pipe Wells.

Howdy oletimer,

I have camped at Furnace Creek many times, just didn't get around to making the decision to go to Death Valley until it was to late to book a reservation there. I took a look at both Stove Pipe Wells and Sunset using Google Earth and they look to be pretty wide open and should be easy to get in and out of as well as park. Tecopa Hot Springs, is a place I last visited many years ago, back when the Hot Springs were FREE, I have been told its pretty well commercialized now sad to see another wonderful out of the way place go down that route.
