  1. The National WWI Museum & Treasures of the Steamboat Arabia HOP June 1, 2018 After an incredible week at Escapade, you may want to take a relaxing, fun-filled tour around the area. HOPs are fun and exciting, especially when shared with your fellow Escapees friends. Board a luxury coach and let us do the driving into Kansas City. Along with a local, knowledgeable tour guide, enjoy the scenic view of this beautiful countryside, listen to passages read from the doughboys’ diaries and learn about Missouri’s rich history. America’s WWI Museum is nothing short of outstanding! Dedicated by Congress as the “nation’s official” National World War I Museum it is devoted to preserving historical artifacts associated with the First World War. Exhibits of posters, photographs, uniforms, films, audio broadcasts, artillery, weaponry and cannons come to life with start-of-the-art special effects. This famous museum is visited each year by many people from around the world. There is no other museum like it in the United States. After lunch, experience the life of the American people in the nineteenth century and see items used in their daily lives. Enjoy a guided tour at the state-of-the-art Steamboat Arabia Museum and learn about its history. Over three hundred steamboats sank on the dangerous Missouri River, and the Steamboat Arabia was one of them. It sank in 1856, with a 200-ton cargo designated to be sold by merchants in the general stores. This collection was recovered in 1989, restored, and is the largest grouping of pre-Civil War artifacts in the world. It includes supplies and personal belongings, such as clothing, shoes, medicines, guns, bottled food, jewelry, imported French perfumes, as well as the steamship’s paddlewheel and 6-ton stern. This tour also includes learning about the excavation, seeing a working preservation lab and walking on the full-size reproduction of the main deck.
