  1. Hey folks, been lurking here for a while. I have my Class A, but it's not what I do for work anymore. I mostly dealt in local dirt work. We're looking at probably buying a fifth wheel between 38-45' (three kids, Labrador and a cat plus us two). I plan to convert the sleeper on the truck to an office, so I can actually have a quiet place to conduct business. I love cabovers, but it doesn't seem like most are quite big enough, cab-wise. Anyway, the meat of it all is this: I know most states technically limit RV's to 65', but are any of you folks longer? Have you ever been measured? I'd love to be able to stretch a truck so that an SUV could fit on it, plus the fifth wheel. We have a Suburban now, but that alone is 18.5'. We could probably downsize, but we ideally want one more kid, which means third row is not negotiable. But for travel days we'd sure love having everyone in the same vehicle. Plus, not having to buy fuel for two hogs would be awesome. It makes 5-6mpg a heckuva lot more reasonable if I'm not also buying gas for an SUV getting 17mpg. What are your thoughts, oh wise ones?
  2. Hello, I’m hoping to get a little bit of information for financial planning purposes. My wife and I have been planning/dreaming about fulltime RVing upon my retirement for several years now (My wife is already retired, I’m quite jealous). Right now my expense spreadsheet says we will be able to retire in about 5-years, hopefully by April of 2022 or earlier. I have a good spreadsheet for living expenses and we have a solid ideal of the cost of our 5th wheel. What I would like to find out is a general cost of the RV Hauler Deck. It’s my hope that we would buy the truck and get it converted 1-2 years prior to retirement and use it for camping and road trips. I’m strongly leaning towards a Volvo 780, I will want a nice DROM box, a smart car deck using ramps and pulling winch system and storage boxes built in the sides. All LED lighting and the proper hitch for say a 22,000 lb. rig with 4-6k hitch weight. I’m not a chrome guy so it doesn’t need to be too shiny. The cost I’m trying to get info on is as follows: Singling the truck and converting exhaust to a Weed Burner And the cost of the RV Hauler Deck as described above. I’m ok with ballpark pricing say plus or minus 5/10k as I just don’t really have much of an idea for this and I’m trying to come up with a rough total cost for my rig. Another question, I have been doing quite a bit of searching for a Volvo truck and due to the fact that I’m not real confortable making a purchasing decision on the truck without some expert help does anybody know of a location or an individual, which I could hire to help with looking over and inspecting the truck with me? Or is there the equivalent of a certified system for the trucks like there is for the cars? I’m already familiar with Greg and RV Haulers and I already consider him to be an option when the time comes. I consider any feedback as useful as I have already learned so much from just reading the different blogs on this site. Thanks Kevin and Donette, patiently waiting and dreaming
